Bush likely to cite Iraq "progress" during major speech on Tuesday

Do we really expect anything new from him?

By Caren Bohan
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush will try to persuade skeptical Americans this week that the war in Iraq is winnable while shoring up his own weak approval ratings. Neither task will be easy.

As part of a newly honed White House focus on Iraq, Bush will travel to an army base at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, on Tuesday to deliver what his aides are billing as a major speech on the conflict.

The speech comes on the anniversary of the handover of sovereignty and the president finds himself on the defensive about Iraq amid lawmaker complaints and polls showing American discontent.

-snip-
Bush will need to avoid painting an overly optimistic picture of events in Iraq, as images of devastation from bomb attacks fill U.S. television screens. The White House has had to defend Vice President Dick Cheney's recent assertion that the Iraqi insurgency was in its "last throes."

1. Too late for Bush
I think.
"the handover of sovereignty"

What a joke. While we occupied a country and are building fourteen military bases there, we "handed over sovereignty. Joke.

6. Notice how he always stages his speeches before people that
are not allowed to speak against his policies?

3. "The Light at the End of the Tunnel" revisited?
Maybe he'll cite some body counts and quote Hillary's statement about the "failed insurgency" along with the standard tripe about "Our Brave Soldiers", "spreading democracy", "staying the course" and sing a chorus of "God Bless America". And the ever popular "American Resolve", inferring that those that oppose the slaughter are limp wristed sissies.

4. None of the above!
"The first elected government for centuries" will be the acclaimed message! The neocon followers will never ask for how long!

5. He sure is not on the same blogs of TV set I am on.
I think Bush has temper fits if the news is not to his liking so every one just tells him what he wants to hear. And he seem to want to be some type of hero which is not going well. Why doesn't he say he won and leave it at that.
