My son turned 18 on the 20th
We received his selective service registration on June 23rd! I really don't want him to register. Its frightening to me even though, or should I say, especially because, my husband and I have both served in the military, albeit in the Air Force just after Vietnam. I wonder what the ramifications would be if he abstained?

2. I think its illegal not to

Funny / sad story. I went to Basic the week after my 18th so of course registration wasn't on the top of my agenda that last week.

While in Basic, I got some pretty threatening letters sent home about how I missed signing up for selective services, so I ended up filling out the crap from my Company CO's office with Drill watching lol.

3. It is required
There are alot of bad things, some already mentioned, thay can/will happen if he does not register. Im an OIF vet, I sympathize with your feelings - but really they may be a bit irrational. The odds are stcked greatly in favor of your son never being forced into service.
8 months ago, I was looking for a draft on the horizon. But boy has Bush and Co lost momentum!! With the numbers dropping like rocks and house and senate republicans backing away, I think that the dreaded "withdrawl" will happen before a draft now.
be cool

4. The same w/ me. The Kid turned 18 on Mon
He will sign it for student loan purposes, license/passport

However, I believe I picked up somewhere, from someone
(sorry, damn, cannot remember) that on the form he should
write that he is a CO contientious objector. Although
her hasn't formalized it with the Unitarian Minister yet, we do have a date set up for this meeting.

ALso he sat roadside with me yesterday with protest the war signs.
Damn if I didn't have the canera with me, but betcha bottom $
I will next time.

Anyone else know if he should write on the SS form that he
is a CO?
