Time: Backtrack Time For Kennedy?
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1101030929-488808,00.html

Accusations that the administration is spending part of its war budget on "bribes" prove unfounded

Some of the sharpest criticism yet of the Bush Administration's policy in Iraq came last week from a familiar adversary, Ted Kennedy. In an interview with the AP, the Massachusetts Senator called the war a "fraud" that was "made up in Texas" to give the President a political boost. Even more provocatively, Kennedy raised questions about where the money being spent on Iraq is actually going. He cited a Congressional Budget Office report showing that only $2.5 billion of the $4 billion being spent each month on the war can be accounted for, and said the rest of the money is being doled out to "political leaders in all parts of the world, bribing them to send troops" to Iraq.

Asked on CNN whether he had proof to back up his $1.5 billion allegation, Kennedy hedged on the specifics and resorted to the broad brush.

Oh we want everyone to be specific now? When did this come about?

I sure am glad that W&Co. have been so straight forward and forth coming on every issue and haven't resorted to this "broad brush" approach. I am also glad that this tiny article didn't call for anyone to TELL US WHERE THE MONEY IS GOING!

1. Took less that a week to "disprove" ...
imagine how long it would take for them to "disprove" the *-shit if they spent as much time on it.

2. Third time this week
And yes, I'm counting. This is the third time in a week that the media has used the word "backtrack" in a story about Dems. Clark was said to have "backtracked." I believe one of the Clintons allegedly "backtracked." And now the media wants Kennedy to "backtrack" so they can merrily keep the word in play. Doesn't Rove consult a thesaurus before his daily media faxes?

12. Do you think Delay will backtrack from this:

Republicans were quick to pounce; House majority leader Tom DeLay accused Democrats of venting more "hateful rhetoric at President Bush than they ever did at Saddam Hussein."

Uh-Huh

4. Proof?
Uh, how about some "proof" of where that excess billion and a half is going, then? I mean, it's going somewhere, right? And it isn't being accounted for, right? In this instance, proving a negative should be child's play: Just have the corrupt Bush administration account for that billion and a half, and Kennedy will cheerfully withdraw his allegation that it's being paid out in bribes to coalition "partners."

Until then, media whores, wouldn't it be a greater public service to find out where those off-the-books funds we're giving away are going? As Chimpy never tires of telling us when he wants to shovel some more of the treasury into his buddies' pockets, "it's our money."

9. The obvious next question for Time:
Where is the $1.5B going?

How about a little reporting. Or should we just forget that he cited an OMB report that backs up his claim of unidentifed spending?

10. Supposedly the CBO report says:
While the CBO report does say it cannot account for how all the money being funneled into Iraq is being spent, it contains no reference to any unaccountable $1.5 billion.

That is what Time reported or was told to report.
