Mom Charged In Fatal Pit Bull Attack On Boy...yes, that mom
http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/4648116/detail.html

SAN FRANCISCO -- A California woman has been charged with child endangerment because her 12-year-old son was fatally mauled in a pit bull attack.

Maureen Faibish has been charged in connection with the June 3 attack. Nicholas Faibish was killed by one or both of the family's dogs while his mother was running errands.

The boy was found in a bedroom, covered in blood from several wounds, including a major head injury.

The woman told the San Francisco Chronicle she had been so concerned about one of the dogs that she shut her son in the basement to protect him. She said the male dog was acting possessively because the female was in heat.

1. another story from the mercury news
By Mary Anne Ostrom and Lisa Fernandez

Mercury News

The mother of the 12-year-old San Francisco boy mauled to death by two family pit bulls earlier this month was charged Thursday with felony child endangerment.

San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris said Maureen Faibish knew of the danger when she left her son Nicholas alone on June 3 to run errands for two hours. Faibish, 39, has been quoted as saying she left the boy in the basement with a shovel to protect him from the dogs who had been aggressive earlier in the day. San Francisco police investigators have said the mother told them Nicholas had been bitten earlier in the day and she believed the female dog, Ella, was in heat.

Faibish, 39, was arrested Thursday at San Francisco police headquarters and remained in custody in lieu of $75,000 bail. If convicted, she faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison. This would be longer than the usual two- to six-year sentence on these charges because the endangerment resulted in death, Harris said. The district attorney said she ruled out a manslaughter charge.

Calling it ``a tragic case,'' Harris said in a statement that there ``is clear evidence that the defendant knew her child faced serious danger when she left the home.''

2. Sickening.
I'm a dog lover, but I would never have a dog that I couldn't trust to be alone with my child.

She deserves whatever she gets.
