ABC13: Huge Turnout for Houston Gay Pride Parade
Edited on Sun Jun-26-05 08:13 PM by Tandalayo_Scheisskop
(6/25/05 - HOUSTON) - It's an annual tradition in the Montrose area -- the Pride Parade. And there was a huge turnout Saturday night from Houston's gay and lesbian community.

More than a quarter of a million people were expected for Saturday's parade. The parade route took place down Westheimer in the Montrose area. The large crowds were welcome news not just for supporters, but for area businesses as well.

"I think it's great," said Gary Baumann with the Houston GLBT Chamber of Commerce. "It's incredible that people come out to see what we're all about. It promotes will for our community. We're no longer the Montrose area. We're around the city of Houston."

This is the 27th year the parade has been held in Houston and some reports say it could be the largest ever. Even before the parade started, thousands of people lined the streets. Some came out of support...others out of curiosity.

Looks like our Gay Brothers and Sisters down there are not going gently into that long good night. Bless them all.

2. Toronto parade was today (Sunday)
It's pretty huge. Local media estimate it brings $80 million in business to the town from the tourists.

This year was the first year the chief of police marched!

4. Yesterday and Today...
This is Pride Week in Toronto, with the Dyke March on Saturday and the Pride Parade on Sunday. This is a BIG event in Toronto, estimates of 1 million people lining the parade route today.

5. Wow, Seattle only had about 100,000, says a lot about how
much this means to those who are oppressed. That is just awesome.
