7 out of 9 appointed by repubs. Oh, those evil liberals. Someone's been getting played for a political rube for decades now. Hmmm, who could it be? Maybe a certain single-issue voter?????

Rehnquist--Nixon appointment (1971)
Stevens--Ford appointment (1975)
O'Connor--Reagan (1981)
Scalia--Reagan (1986)
Kennedy--Reagan (1988)
Souter--Bush (1990)
Thomas--Bush (1991)
Ginsberg--Clinton (1993)
Breyer--Clinton (1994)

Those evil pro-abortion republican-appointed murderers. Here's your liberal SC--Nixon, Ford, Reagan, and Bush appointments could strictly interpret the law, yet they DO NOT.

Yes, just keep voting republican. Some day they may come through for you.

Rubes.

1. I still don't understand how Ginsburg, etc. voted for the pro-development
interpretation.

3. There was a good article on this at DailyKos
this weekend. The majority decision was a principled decision and actually pretty well written by Stevens. He didn't change my mind on the rightness of the majority on the issue, but I have a lot more respect for the Stevens opinion after giving it a careful reading. So don't just count the result.

6. I can't figure this one out, but how to you answer this comment...
from a bright "religious" Republican at work, I hear him refer to Ginsburg as an extreme left "communist".

Now, how in the hell do you get to first base on a discussion that begins with that. And while I'm asking this, kind DU'ers, please advise me on the best approach to the Republicans who think they are informed about "extreme leftists" being "communist.

Comments?

2. That's what I say to taunt fundie members in my family.
I tell them:

"You are being USED. Had the GOP really wanted to outlaw abortion, they'd've done it already with more careful Supreme Court appointees. But you know as well as I do that it's more useful to them as a campaign issue; it certainly gets you to the polls like sheep year-in and year-out.. right?"

4. My family refuses to believe me.
I have a cousin who told me I was a liar (or just stupid). Everyone knows that Clinton appointed 5 out of the 9.

Rube.
