3. Never Point A Gun At a Living Thing Unless You Mean To Kill

Even if you "know" the gun is unloaded.

Carry your own jumper (like they have on tow trucks) so you can jump start your own car if you have to without relying on a stranger's help.

If anyone is walking behind you, stop and turn around and look. Get off the sidewalk and be prepared to fight and/or run (and don't scream "Help" - scream "FIRE!" Everyone wants to come look at a fire).

4. Never, and I mean NEVER, go with anyone who tries to take you

somewhere you don't want to go. I tell my daughter to scream, fight, kick and whatever else it takes.

Seeing that poor girl being taken on a security camera scared the shit out of me. She looked so much like my daughter and they were the same age, too.

6. Agreed - Second Location Usually Means Death

I've jumped out of a car going 40 MPH to avoid that "second location." I was 21, getting a ride home from a friend of a college buddy. That friend turned out to be a paroled rapist. (College buddy didn't know that.)

Which brings up: don't accept rides from friends of friends!

5. If someone is trying to attack you, go for their eyes

The old adage of 'kick them in the groin' is a bad idea. Not only are they expecting it (and therefore protecting themselves against it) but it's not surefire--and it doesn't work on women. Go for the attacker's eyes. Use your index and middle fingers held stiff and straight. Jab them forcefully into the attacker's eyes, and when s/he let's go of you to attend to his/her eyes, run like crazy.

*Only use this as a defensive measure if you are afraid for your safety or life. This is not to be used as an offensive measure!!!!! It can cause severe eye damage or blindness to the attacker, and if you use it improperly (i.e., other than in legitimate self-defense) you could be in legal trouble. :grr: :grr: :grr:

7. Learn how to stand next to someone who may be a threat.

Learn how to give them a smaller target by turning your body sideways instead of giving them your full back or front. Standing this way also gives you a head start in getting away from them.

Another good one: learn wrist releases. If someone grabs my wrist, I've learned how to turn my arm and push free between their thumb and fingers! It's not hard if you practice. Practice with a friend.

8. Don't drink and drive. PLEASE don't get in a car with someone who has been

doing the same.
