You know I realized why U.S. media simply do not ask people

in other countries their opinions about the U.S. or its leaders.They will be in for a shock. The carefully built up images of the U.S. as a nation that nurtures democracy and freedom will be shattered in one fell swoop. In countries as different as Britain, Japan, China, Brazil,Russia, there is now universal contempt for our arrogance, xenophobia, third rate education, health care, you name it.And the contempt gets worse when you throw in the name Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld or Rice.

No one envies us any more. No one admires us any more.No one believes we do any good any more.We are probably more hated universally than any nation that existed in history.

The media want us to exist in an Alice-in-Wonderland world believing in myths that have been shattered forever.

2. All one has to do is to take a walk through some of Europe's great

capital cities,or through Tokyo or Shanghai and see the energy, vitality and bustle of the people and wonder why they would even bother to think of us as a nation to be admired is beyond me.

Admiration has been replaced with contempt;envy has been replaced with indifference.

And worst of all, except for our resort to force at the drop of a hat, no one gives a damn about America.That is the message the media are afraid to tell the people.

3. Spend any substantial period of time overseas

...and the scales fall from your eyes. Your perspective will never be the same again. The American media have been a complete joke to me ever since I came back from Seoul in 1990. You realize the whole thing is a brainwashing project for the "great empire."

5. The last time I went to Europe was in the fall of 2003.

I wore my "Clark '04" button and I had so many people - upon realizing that was General Clark and I was American - express such hope that we would get rid of the Shrub regime.

One woman, after giving me directions, eyed my button and said, "I'm so glad you're supporting General Clark. And you're from the Southern United States, too!"

It was probably the only reason I was treated with respect. I wore it everywhere. I was afraid people would think I voted for that war criminal in the people's house.

7. I went to Rome this past spring....no envy there

Rome bustles, is cleaner, has more passion for elections. Sure the government changes all the time, but at least the elections are clean.
