Is there any chance Bush would dump Cheney
for 2004? It looks to me like the WH pretty much hung him out to dry over his Saddam-Iraq-9/11 comments to Tim Russert. Some friends and I were talking about how they could gradually lay the blame for things on Cheney, say that running for office again was too much for his health and try to get somebody else in that they think might give them a better shot in 2004.

1. I would think the UN speech would put such rumors to rest
Bush will go down in a blaze of neocon fire.

2. Yes. I'd say the odds are pretty good
I expect them to dump him for someone more moderate and well known, maybe Giuliani...

5. Not Guiliani.
There'd be a shitfire on the right. He's pro-choice and pro-gay. It's the #2 position, but this would threaten the fundies' dominance in the GOP. It could fuel rightist abstention or a third-party candidacy.

12. Yeah, it MIGHT be problematic, however, these are the same
hypocrites who are supporting Arnold...So, who knows? There was a story recently about Giuliani's popularity in NY, and how NYers want him back in politics. Picking Giuliani could be viewed as a move to put NY in play for Bush.

7. Giuliani isn't more moderate than Cheney on foriegn policy
. He was the reason all the neocons sabotaged McKinney.

3. It's about all they've got . . .
I wouldn't put it past them to liquidate Crash Cart in a "terrorist" attack for the sympathy factor. These ruthless, bloodthirsty greedheads have shown what they're capable of; it's a foolish person indeed who discounts any grotesquerie they might try to pull.

4. They'd be smart to...
That would probably be a boon to them.

6. Not a chance in hell

Who would wipe the Dim Son's bum for him then?

Semi-seriously, this isn't going to happen. It would upset the PNAC's timetables for world domination via Pax Americana. :evilfrown:

8. Betcha
He has a "tragic heart attack." I don't put anything past that crowd. But * will still lose. The economy is too screwed and Iraq too uncontrolled.

9. Yes, Powell. He would help the ticket a lot.

Doesn't matter what the RW thinks before the election; after the election they would ignore Powell anyway and go on with their right wing agenda. They would pick up a lot of votes, I'm afraid.

10. He has to ...
First of all Cheney died sometime in the summer of 2002.
Second, His corpse is still a paid employee of Halliburton, (and the American people know it) so he has become a liablity.
Third, Bush needs a minority running mate to win. (since it is unlikely the terrible duo will win)

Expect to see Condi confess that she is a homosexual transvestite, and that she has been chosen to join the ticket.

Please do not flame me. I am not bashing Homosexuals, Transvestites, or Transgendered folks. I just thought Condi needed a few more "minority" tags before she would qualify to be the running mate.

Cheers
Drifter

11. Cheney is wildly popular
with the Rethuglican base. Don't ask me why--if I understood that kind of mindset I wouldn't be a DUer! But it's a fact and I think dumping his corrupt old ass from the ticket would infuriate the GOP loyalists.

Cheney's been invisible for many months. Part of the reason has been to keep the spotlight on Commander Codpiece, an overgrown insecure brat. Problem with that strategy, of course, is that when things go wrong, all the focus is on the #1 guy, not #2. It would be hard to unload Cheney and not see it for what it is--scapegoating and ass-saving.

But come April or May, should there be a clear Dem front-runner who is polling higher than Bush*, I think they may just be desperate enough to yank Cheney in favor of someone like Frist or Ridge.
