Lieberman as a Scoop Jackson Democrat...a link to 1990 article
http://www.policyreview.org/summer90/liedberman,html

I ran into this while researching Scoop's influence on the neoconservative movement. Neocons like Murvachik and Perle link their political ideologies to Scoop Jackson.

I admit to being a bit surprised at some of it. Though honestly, Lieberman suggests he has the tough military, pro-environment stance of Jackson.

After you read this, my questions are...
Was Gore/Lieberman a DLC ticket? What the heck does this say about the "3rd way?"

"Joseph Lieberman, Democrat of Connecticut, was elected to the United States Senate in 1988 with the endorsement of National Review and the support of many conservatives who preferred him to incumbent Republican Lowell Weicker.

<break>
While his voting record in the Senate has not differed much from that of his Democratic colleagues, he has also sharply criticized the national Democratic Party for moving from its traditional emphasis on military strength and economic growth."

<break>

<later in the article>
" Wherever American people or principles are in danger, we have to be open to the use of forces..."

<break>
"...The new threats are going to come from unstable Third World countries and from terrorists. The proliferation of biological, chemical, and nuclear weapons, together with the capacity to deliver them via ballistic missles, is a major threat to peace--expecially in the Middle East and Asia"

<break, return to closing comments involving heros in the senate..Truman, Kennedy, and Scoop Jackson>
"...he brought together policies I admire..."
