A Gitmo Proposal Never Suggested Before (?)

I know of a viable solution to our problem at Guantanamo. We have our base there because of a lease, I believe going back to the 1898 Spanish American War. So we have a right to the base. Let's turn stewardship of it over to the UN. This would include prisoners currently held there. Staff it with UN personnel, and let a US General command, but with his immediate staff from elsewhere. We'd pay the bill for the whole thing.

2. No, Just Stewardship

Think of it as a sublease. Modify my first plan by limiting it to some period of time, say 5 years. I'm easy on this, just looking for a viable solution to our world immage problem while concieding that there may in fact be some terrorists that we might wish to hold. Though why they could not be held in Fort Levenworth, Kansas, or maybe Fort Bragg, North Carolina, is beyond me.
