Please help me reply to this freeper email I got about Christians
Please no flames. It started when he was saying the world would be better off without muslims and I replied the Christian fundies were just as bad as the Taliban. This is the reply from him.

> Can you cite one instance of any Christian that has sentenced a rape victim
> to death? or be-headed a person for stealing? or destroyed any non-Christian
> temples/churches/synagogues the way the Taliban did? Or that believe
> practice oppression of women, denying them an education? the right to have
> property?

Can y'all help me come up with bible verses to refute him? I know Lot offered up his daughters to be raped and then slept with them.

not too horrible, but supports your point.

I permit no woman to teach or to have authority over men; she is to keep silent I Timothy 2:12.

12. Death penalty for practising another religion
Edited on Tue Jun-28-05 05:29 PM by Bluebear
"If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son, or your daughter, or the wife of your bosom, or your friend who is as your own soul, entices you secretly, saying, `Let us go and serve other gods,' which neither you nor your fathers have known, some of the gods of the peoples that are round about you, whether near you or far off from you, from the one end of the earth to the other, you shall not yield to him or listen to him, nor shall your eye pity him, nor shall you spare him, nor shall you conceal him; but you shall kill him; your hand shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people. You shall stone him to death with stones."

Holy Bible, Deuteronomy 13:6-11

20. Isaiah 13:15 to 18 is rather sweet too
Every one that is found shall be thrust through; and every one that is joined unto them shall fall by the sword.
Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished.
Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it.
Their bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye shall not spare children.

4. Reading that reminded me of the nun who was crucified
Edited on Tue Jun-28-05 05:23 PM by cynatnite
It was in the news not long ago.

Leviticus, I think, says that women should be stoned for adultery. The old testament is full of this stuff. If this guy tries to say that it's the old and not the new testament, ask him if the old testament is less important? Ask him if we are to follow the Ten Commandments, does that mean we follow all these other 'laws'?

on edit: he also needs to take a look at the jerks in this time that have done shit in the name of god. Killing abortion doctors and blowing up clinics.

Edited on Tue Jun-28-05 05:27 PM by stopbush
This one isn't too bad, but a typical RW tactic is to so load an act with so many conditions that it's impossible to find something similar. This is best played out when they're demanding apologies from D's - ie: sure, Rs are all cheating liars, BUT they've NEVER done it from the Senate floor at 4:30 on a Wednesday afternoon while flights were delayed at the airport and there was a special on shock absorbers at Meineke and Taco Bell was having a sale on burritos...like that horrible, partisan DEM just did!!

14. Sentence a rape victim to death?
Edited on Tue Jun-28-05 05:32 PM by Kraklen
It's right there in the Bible.

http://www.evilbible.com/Rape.htm

Be-head someone for stealing? No, I think the punishment for stealing is having ones hands cut off. If he cares to cite an instance of the Taliban killing someone for stealing, I'd like to see it.

Destroyed churches? Sure, over the years thousands of black churches have been burned to the ground by Christian terrorists.

Practice oppression on women? That's the standard motive of Church groups like "The Promise Keepers."

Denying people education? The Creationist movement. Attempts to shut down public education. The Citadel. There's no shortage of examples.

The right to own property? Women owning property's a relative modern concept in American history, I believe. Turn of the century America wasn't that far removed from teh Taliban.

Women are worth less than men....
Males (20 - 60 years old) are worth 50 shekels.
Females are worth 30.

Males (5 - 20 years old) are worth 20 shekels.
Females are worth 10.

Males (< 5 years old) are worth 5 shekels.
Females are worth 3.

And babies (or fetuses) less than one month old are worth nothing at all. (!!!!!)

18. not a bible verse, just history
"under the reign of Henry VIII, as many as 72,000 people are estimated to have been executed. Some common methods of execution at that time were boiling, burning at the stake, hanging, beheading, and drawing and quartering. Executions were carried out for such capital offenses as marrying a Jew ...

<snip>

In 1612, Virginia Governor Sir Thomas Dale enacted the Divine, Moral and Martial Laws, which provided the death penalty for even minor offenses such as stealing grapes, killing chickens, and trading with Indians.

<snip>

The New York Colony instituted the Duke's Laws of 1665. Under these laws, offenses such as striking one's mother or father, or denying the "true God," were punishable by death.

23. here's a website you might find helpful
http://www.evilbible.com/

But here's some direct answers (this is a great site for research):
http://skepticsannotatedbible.com/lev/wom_list.html

If a man has sex with an engaged slave woman, scourge the woman, but don't punish the man. (Even if he raped her?) 19:20-22

If a man has sex with his father's wife, kill them both. 20:11

If a man has sex with his daughter in law, kill them both. 20:12

If you "lie" with your wife and your mother-in-law (now that sounds fun!), then all three

God defines the value of human life in dollars and cents. Of course, to God, females are worth considerably less than males (50 - 60%) -- but neither are worth much. 27:3-7

Women are dirty and sinful after childbirth, so God prescribes rituals for their purification. If a boy is born, the mother is unclean for 7 days and must be purified for 33 days; but if a girl is born, the mother is unclean for 14 days and be purified for 66 days. This is because, in the eyes of God, girls are twice as dirty as boys. 12:1-5

After a woman gives birth, a priest must kill a lamb, pigeon, or dove as a sin offering. This is because having children is sinful and God likes it when things are killed for him. 12:6-8

God lays down the law on menstruating women. Such women are to God both filthy and sinful, and anyone who comes near them is contaminated by them. 15:19-30, 33

24. Well...
Edited on Tue Jun-28-05 05:56 PM by Spider Jerusalem
to provide an accurate answer, rather than quoting from the Old Testament (which is Jewish and not Christian) as so many people on this thread seem to be doing:

Death was at one time the standard punishment for rape in Christian countries throughout Europe, particularly in the Middle Ages. Death was ALSO the punishment for stealing; execution methods varied from place to place, and beheading (with an axe or sword) was certainly used. Plenty of mosques and synagogues were destroyed during the Crusades; and women were denied the right to educaton or property until fairly recently, historically speaking.

All you need to refute this nonsense is historical fact (NB: bible verses are not "historical fact".)

25. Dominionist believe most of that about women.
And * the pseudo fundie has destroyed many temples in this war. He sent contractors to be beheaded over oil (not intentionally, but with out concern for their welfare). I heard one anti-abortion fundie say that if a rape victim was pregnant you should not punish the rapist by killing his child. Seems to all be in the same ballpark as the taliban, if not matching in exact detail.

26. You don't need the Bible
Just look at the history of the Christian religion, during it's time here on earth many things have been done in the name of God.

War, murder, rape, fatricide, matricide, and torture just ot name a few. Christians have done all of these things, just ask a Native American, or a Native Hawaiian how the Christian church has affected
their lives.

If some historians are to be believed at one time almost 30,000,000
Native Americans lived in North America, after first contact the numbers dwindled down to the tens of thousands. And that first contact was with followers of the Christian religion.

I'm not bashing Christians, I happen to be one, but those that support Bush and his war, are no exactly like the Taliban in everything except one, the Taliban are willing to fight and put their lives on the line for their beliefs, can that be said of men
like Fallwell, Dobson , or Robertson?
