22. Dembloggers has Faux spinning on this issue
"Video: Fox News Tries To Spin Fake Applause

If you haven't heard, the only applause during the Bush speech was started by a Bush staffer. When FOX News heard of this they had to spin the news so it wouldn't make Bush look like a clown. Fair and balanced my ass!

On the positive side it is a little funny that even Fox News admits that the applause was fake."

:-) We are not the ones who need to know this. This is for you lurking Freeptards! Your boy needs a handout and staged applause! How's that make you feel?

29. It was certainly obvious to me
and I told my husband - this is a prompted applause. There was no spontaneity, no whistling - just really, really lukewarm. It was actually painful to listen to.

I think the part that made me want to vomit the most, was his Chimpo-rocododile tears at the end.

:wtf: Musta been 'cause he was thinking of his poll numbers.

30. a handout and staged applause from a captive audience
Bushco ONLY appears before either hand-picked sycophants or troops. The former are grateful for being to allowed to steal openly and the latter are ordered to be respectful. Either way, Bushco won't have to be exposed to actual democracy.

17. I couldn't help notice the tepid applause at the end
It was a far cry from the cheerleading we've seen in the past. PBS said that Fort Bragg has 10,000 deployed in Iraq.

19. It was polite, nothing more.
Did you notice how solemn the faces were in the audience? Maybe it's a military thing, but they sure looked grim.

The one physical response I saw was when Bush said: know that the American people support you -- one guy nodded his head.

27. That solemn face is the look you get when you taste blood
From biting your tounge to keep from punching someones face in when you know he really needs it and it would feel sooo goood.

It's called discipline, and I applaud those soldiers for their restraint.

18. That is the MOST Cowardly thing
This administratoin HAS EVER DONE. They falsify the intel to GET THEIR MONEY-MAKING WAR. They send these young people TO DIE AND BE MAMED. Then he stands in front of them on a carrier saying MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. And over 1000 dead soldiers later, he is MAKING THEM APPLAUD HIM BEFORE AMERICA.

This man is the MOST COWARDLY MAN ON THE PLANET EVER!

21. Yes
and maybe that's why someone had to tell them to applaud. The applause at the end wasn't very enthusiastic. Just polite. The soldiers must have been wondering why he was talking about 9/11 when they were told they were going to Iraq to get WMD and he never once mentioned them.

CNN is good tonight. Just heard an anchor say to Sen. McCain that the war is being called 'a quagmire and a failure' McCain is trying to excuse the 9/11 references. He's explaining that Bush only did that because of the outsiders coming into Iraq.

Now the anchor just asked a really good question of McCain. He said 'we keep hearing we are fighting terrorists over there so we don't have to fight them here, but, I hope this isn't upsetting to you, WHAT'S TO STOP THEM from doing both?' Yessss, finally the media is calling the BS!! I am shocked at CNN tonight.

McCain is trying to help Bush out! Hey! John, please do NOT insult our intelligence! This war was about WMD and nothing else!! That's what the troops were told, that's what we were told. It was a lie, all the rest is BS and we know it and you know it!!

25. gwb was starting to sound a little desperate, raising his voice
because that's when the hand picked people who attend his "town hall" meetings start cheering.

He was starting to de compensate, he needed applause to keep on track with the scripted speech.

Personally, I think this is one of the most damaging moments of the speech. MKJ

31. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he has a breakdown
Incurious George is in way over his head. Being a weak governor of Texas was about all he was capable of. Way over his head now.
He's aged about ten years since he's been in the WH. He doesn't know what's really going on and is incapable of learning.

Toward the end, Richard Nixon reportedly got drunk and went around the White House at night crying and talking to the portraits.

Nixon will soon have company on the presidential wall of shame.

Fox news also said that the applause at the end was subdued because the officers told the soldiers to tone it down and not do any hooting. LOL.

28. Mike Malloy Just Mentioned it on AirAmerica Radio, too.
Another disgrace to our troops, utilizing them to cover his crimes.

Malloy mentioned something noteworthy: Bush makes statements for the Iraqi troops and never says a word about our own, paraphrasing.
