4. then maybe we should open it
I've always loved Mario. One of my favorite programs on public radio in NY when he was Governor was a show called "Mario and Me" with Alan Chartock where they would talk every week for a half an hour.

5. Sometimes my mind drifts to the months before the '92 primaries
when Cuomo's heart really wasn't in it, presumably because, like most of the candidates, he didn't think Bush I could be beaten (still popular from the gulf war victory) and so he was just setting himself up for '96. One of the big reasons Clinton won that nomination was that he believed, early on, that bush could be beat and so he ran his heart out. I think if Cuomo had left it all on the field, so to speak, he might have had a good shot at the nomination and then (after bush tanked) at the white house. I'd've loved a Cuomo administration.

I still think he's a good spokesman for the party, and I liked everything I heard him say in support of Kerry last summer and about all the candidates during the primary season. As the top guy on the ticket, though, I don't know ... it's been a while since he's been in the game as a candidate, and he doesn't have the outsider energy of a Dean or Boxer, the name recognition with fresh angle of a Hilary Clinton, or the military cred of Kerry or Clark. I'm not saying I wouldn't like it, I just think it would be a tough sell in this environment.

6. well after revisiting his 1992 nomination speech for Bill Clinton
I think if Hillary looks like a lock he would make her ticket unbeatable.http://www.shabbir.com/nonmatchbox/cuomo.html

16. well, i was really being tongue in cheek
(what's the smiley for that again? ;))

I know it would never happen, but if she really really wanted to have mario on the ticket, she could resign her senate seat before the nomination (like bob dole) and then move back to arkansas. Of course, that would hand the other side a nice talking point about her senate career.

Wouldn't ever happen.

I was really just being flippant about how cheney suddenly found himself a wyoming citizen again, after all those years in texas ...

:)

11. I don't think a man of substance, a man who comes across as a leader
and NOT as a phony, self-serving politician would be a hard sell in this environment? H.C., a fresh angle? She's just another in a long line of - do whatever it takes to further her own career - politician (including sending our sons and daughters off to die in an unnecessary war).

12. fwiw, i tend to agree with you about Senator Clinton
I don't know who I'll support in the primaries, but it is very unlikely to be her. My comments on her were more with respect to the media angle, with the fresh angle being that she'll likely be the most serious female contender in history. And like I said, I like Mario Cuomo and wouldn't at all mind seeing him run, I just don't know how his handlers would package him and I don't think it's as likely as it might have been for him back in '92, had he had he put his all into it. But plenty could change in two years, and who knows what the country's mood will be in the summer of '07 ...

10. I've always had nothing but the highest admiration for Mario Cuomo
He is far and away the most polished, inspiring, gifted speaker we have right now. He is a veritable Michelangelo with words. More than once he has brought me to tears of empathy, joy, sadness or other emotion.

While I would be ALL OVER a Cuomo for president campaign, I think he's a bit too old these days. I also have always felt there was one skeleton too many in his closet. I have no idea what it might be .... or even if there is, in fact, one bone too many in there ..... but he seemed to just ... I don't know .... fade after 92.

In Stinky the Clown's fantasy world, he was our 41st president.

I love the guy.

I'll take Water Walking for $400 .........

and I think if we at the grassroot level start getting our eye on a lead horse early the DNC will jump in.
