U.S. Troops Among Bush's Favorite Audiences; Results Not Always Predictable An AP News Analysis

<snip>The president's preference for friendly audiences is well established, demonstrated by Bush's repeated appearances before invitation-only "town hall" crowds to promote his Social Security plan. It's a pattern he followed in his 2004 re-election campaign.

Few audiences are as predictably friendly as military ones, duty-bound to show respect for their commander in chief, often bursting into raucous whoops.

Bush's audience Tuesday evening was unusually quiet while the president spoke, however, applauding in unison after one key passage, as if on cue, and then at the end.

3. He's hoping the support for the troops will rub off on him
I thought they were very restrained. I don't think he's getting that much support.

5. Seriously, were they ordered to be quiet so our "sober" Leader
could properly convey his message of deceit?

7. I watched the aftermath on C-Span
Other than a few senior military men and a few women who were not in uniform the "crowd" showed little enthusiasm for W when mixing with him. The soldiers were polite and that's it.

During his speech I saw several of the troops covering their mouths as to hide a yawn. I believe, even our troops, who are taught to revere the CIC is sick of W.

8. The soldiers looked very somber..they were the faces of the 1700+
who have died in this sham of a war started by this sham of a man. Who among them will be next?

11. Americablog reports an ABC story that the applause was fake
from Americablog.org:

"ABC reports that White House advance team FAKED the applause
by John in DC - 6/28/2005 08:34:00 PM

ABC's Terry Moran just reported that the only time Bush got applause was in the middle of his speech when a White House advance team member started clapping all on their own in order to cajole the soldiers into clapping, which they dutifully did.

So even the applause was fake."

God awmighty, ain't we glad the grownups are back in charge!
