The Uniting American Families Act, and how you can help
http://lgirtf.org/index.php?pageid=1016#UAFA

U.S. immigration policy is based on the principle of family unification. Indeed, nearly 65% of all green card applications are family-based. This policy is grounded in the belief that strong families make strong communities. Sadly, while we know that lesbian and gay families live in towns, counties, and cities across America, they are treated as less than equal.

The Uniting American Families Act would amend current U.S. immigration policy by adding the term "permanent partner" next to where the term "spouse" appears in the current statute. In doing so, the Uniting American Families Act, if enacted, would permit a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident to apply for immigration benefits on behalf of their same-sex foreign-born partner.

Our goal is to have all members who cosponsored the bill in the 108th Congress to sign-on as original cosponsors in the 109th Congress. This is an ambitious goal, so we need your help! Please pick up the phone today and ask your Member of Congress to be an original cosponsor.
