With More Abuse Photos Tomorrow: Do Floating Gulags Prowl The Oceans?
Edited on Wed Jun-29-05 08:17 AM by DistressedAmerican
A friend just sent me this article. Thought it was well worth sharing.

REMEMBER: Over 100 more abuse photos are scheduled to be released to the ACLU TOMORROW. They will probably be in the press starting Friday!!!

This is by court order from a federal judge. Please be aware that these materials are being released.

It is a major victory for the Anti-War movement. We need to make sure these images are not buried and lost down the memory hole. The war is unpopular. This could be the final nail in the coffin!

US faces prison ship allegations

The UN wants to investigate torture allegations at the camp
The United Nations says it has learned of serious allegations that the US is secretly detaining terrorism suspects, notably on American military ships.

The special rapporteur on torture, Manfred Nowak, said the claims were rumours at this stage, but urged the US to co-operate with an investigation.

He said the UN wants lists of the places of detention and those held.

The comments come five days after the UN accused the US of stalling on their requests to visit Guantanamo Bay.

Investigators have been asking to visit the jail in Cuba to carry out checks into allegations of human rights abuse.

4. I saw that allegation yesterday and was just stunned.
Should it prove to be true, Gitmo, Baghram, Abu Gharib & extraordinary renditions will be small potatoes compared to this revelation. I hope it's not true, but the fascists in charge are more than capable of doing this. The truth will eventually come out.

5. He deserves to be impeached as much for this as for lying for war.

He has disgraced us. He has torn up the rule of law, the common international order that civilization depended upon, and has replaced it with rule by thuggery. That's all these unaccountable private contractors are: thugs. They are enslaving us, and committing us to permanent war, where they benefit and we suffer.

Gonzales said the president could order torture if he had a really, really good reason. (For this crowd, Teddy Kennedy probably represents a really good reason.) They said the Geneva Convention was "quaint," and the UN was "irrelevant."

I wouldn't be surprised to find out we have torture ships, even though it seems redundant. By land, by sea. Whatever it takes. The ends justify the means. Bush recently said words to the effect that whether or not to torture had been a moral dilemma for him, and suggested that if we had another terrorist attack it might be because he wasn't torturing (some poor bastard that Pakistan was torturing for us).

God help us.
