CALL TO KERRY: Why didn't you tell Bush to give up claims to Iraq's OIL?
Edited on Wed Jun-29-05 10:08 AM by yurbud
I just called Kerry's office and asked a simple question: Why didn't Kerry demand that the Bushies renounce any claim to Iraq's oil?

I appreciate him mentioning we should announce we aren't going to build all those huge bases there, but it seems to me it would be as least as important to the Iraqis to hear that we give up any claims to their oil, especially with Greg Palast's revelations of the Bushies heavy-handed plan to privatize and sell off Iraq's oil.

Short of actually pulling out troops, this would be the clearest message of goodwill we could send the Iraqis and would probably reduce the attacks on our troops.

Oddly, as soon as I said that, there was dead silence on the phone, and when I asked again the girl said, "I have no comment on that, but I'll pass the message on."

It seems ironic that he and others are demanding that Bush level with the American people, but they are just telling FEWER lies themselves.

I don't want to be represented by people who are only honest when they graded on a curve, and still taking care of the same handful of business interests.

Maybe they'll have a comment if a couple of more people call.

(It would be a good question to ask the Bushies too, but if you did, you'd probably wake up naked with your private parts shackled to the floor in Gitmo.)

1. One step at a time...
...it's called 'positioning'. Kerry can only bring out the truth if he stays credible. Not everyone is as far along with these stories as DU. He's getting there. :patriot:

5. i like your approach
one of the tough battles during campaign. there was just so much shit to bring out.

but....we can start looking at this postion and working it. dean, moveon (well they are pull troops out, so wouldnt work with them). and i think it is important having the groups demanding, pull troops out.

whatever......bush is fuckin up, causing unnecessary death. this we can all agree on

9. NO--it's a simple, crucial, and damning. and he isn't just partronizing
us, I think he really wants to keep his hand on the spigot.

There are a couple techniques we should learn from the right: you don't sell your message incrementally.

Lay it all out simply then pound and pound it until it becomes familiar, then the conventional wisdom, then the inevitable policy.

Kerry and others are being mush-mouthed on this because they are playing both sides of the street, us and the corporations who want to ass-rape those countries and not use that oil wealth to benefit us in any way.

11. i dont know this to be true, and before damning
i would like to know it is true.

i dont think that should be an extreme position

he calls for not having bases. i think that alone puts him in a different place than repug and corporation

or am i wrong

16. Link to summary of oil motive, and he has state dept. docs
On privatization. He talked to the authors, and Jay Garner, who didn't want to implement it because he thought it would inspire resistance.

This is the essence of what is going on over there, and if someone still talks about it in terms of terrorism is a sign that they just want a nicer version of the same policy instead of a real change.

3. very good point and one i hadnt thought of
but it did leave me silent and in thought..... when i heard this. and what a simple thing to suggest and the purity in it. maybe he hasnt thought of the simplicity in it. but that would totally shift world opinion. create a totally different iraq. the only thing would be the data created showing this is what bush/cheney/halliburton has done. (i believe we have seen enough the last four years, it can be put together) and to do effectively it may take some time. but this is something du can promote. find the arguement and help to present. in a good way, may take a couple months before presenting to public. but it could, in its reasoning, be what takes bush down

and it is such a strong position

for repug or bush to go against, would make them say, greed, no mine, mine mine mine. like spoiled rich people

6. Exactly....
Halliburton and EXXON Mobil are corporatists, driven by greed and hegemony. They've severely abused their contracts to the last degree and the Democrats & Repubs have the report and full AUDIT. And the IRS KNOWS all of this....And Rumsfailed is responsible for managing this for Cheney.

SO blow the whole damn thing open......Get it completely dissasembled!!

15. maybe there are just too many battles to fight, they havent
thought this one out yet. and they need some time to say fuck ya......

why dont you just go to the very worst of conclusion, totally created from you not knowing. just a story

i would rather in adult like fashion, get into this. and thank op for bringing this perspective up. really nifty

opens so many doors to show the fraud of admin. we have been able from sorporate greed of late, because we have been dealing with so many other issues. dsm, torture, fundies, sc, lordy person

26. I can't believe that they haven't thought of this
it's the central geopolitical reality right now.

Our domestic oil supply has been declining since the 70s, and the world oil supply is set to decline soon if it hasn't already.

The middle east is the part of the world that will be sucked dry last. Every congressman and senator who works on foreign policy knows this.

So if an elected official says the war in Iraq or the coming war in Iran has anything to do with terrorism, they are lying to your face (unless they are talking about inciting it).

4. Well....
Kerry supports developing alternative fuel sources....But I think he also understands the USA is dependant on that damn oil for the time being....An alternative needs to present itself, and FAST, so the Iraqis don't forever resent the troops who are not meaning any harm.

The Hydrogen fuel cars in General Motors, and that project could have been off the ground by closing corporate loopholes. Thanks to the damn DLC its not even happening.

The stupid freaks saw it at odds with General Electric and the PNAC plan, that is just so sickening. These traitors are putting us in harms way.

i dont think kerry is part of that.

i beleive hillary is actively not supporting kerry

this has been a trip to watch last couple months. but there are things about kerry, like enviromental that leads me to believe that isnt where kerry is

Although he used to be full-time DLC so he sometimes floats from either side....But he knows they are corrupt and slimy, that's why he has made so many actions recently and is finally speaking up.

21. appreciate your help
gosh. i am seeing much more happening than what a lot of people are seeing. all the possibilities and opportunities. i feel better than i have in a while.

gotta get kids out of house. appreciate the info on dlc. really i have just started paying attention to the factions, with my love of dean and dnc, wes on fox, hillary to dlc and what kerry is doing. it feels like a group of kerry, boxer, black caucus and others, almost creating their own group of power. will be interesting to see who sides with who

am i seeing this wrong

anyway, i prefer to do this in play, and not anger or blanket statement.

23. Personally, I'd like to see a united call for that one.
I swear, this administration is like a widespread wildfire, jumping all over the freakin' place, quickly spreading destruction, and difficult as hell to control.

I believe that there should be a united stand against the fraud perpetrated by the oil and construction companies that have direct ties to this administration. They are making billions upon billions via exploitation of our own. It's sick.

25. ASK YOUR REPS & SENATORS: On oil & occupation, should Iraqis decide?
If we are teaching them democracy, this is how to do it. Let them decide regardless of how it affects us.
