it looks as if they've wrapped the flag around something, and only the centre is showing. Strangely, they're also showing the reverse - what you'd see if the flagpole was on the right, when flown from a vertical pole. Or, what you'd see if the flag was flown upside down. Maybe that's the subtle message?

edit: the flags are not American flags, per se. The blue background and stars, if I'm looking at them correctly, are placed in the wrong corner of the flag.

on one hand, it's not real flags they're desecrating, but on the other, if it was artwork, they could have easily sized it to fit the available space. notice all the smaller flags are butchered too.

The flag panel on the right is installed backwards. It looks like a computer copy of the one on the left. But, look at the flag on the left. Notice the slight bunching, draping? And notice how the white in the stripe's field isn't solid? It looks like a wing. If the flag on the right was reversed, the two sides would be draped as if furling in a breeze and the "wings" would be lifting the pretzeldent. It would be a unified image of our president being lifted, buoyed by patriotism, freedom, etc.
