Just Had A Great Experience

I'm out by the road working on a building. A car slows and stops. A young boy (20's) says, 'Hi Thom," I nod and say hello. He asks, 'What is that sign you have down the road?' refering to a simply paper sign, now out of date in reading 1,740. I respond, 'that's the number of dead GI, Americans, in Iraq so far. I update it every day or two, its low right now'. He sits silent for a moment and I go on, 'Its that murderin' mother fucker Bush that is the cause of it all and I want to make good and God Damned sure everyone knows how many he's killed'. He replied, 'Yep, your right. I'm goin' in 2 weeks'. I scowled and said, go do your duty son and keep your fuggin' head down.' Then Mark, the UPS guy came down the road the other way and the kid had to back up and give him room before going on his way.

I hope the boy remains safe, I hope he gets to come home soon.

By the way, I don't know who the kid is, just that he must be from around here somewhere. I do in fact talk like that, particularly when refering to Bush, so the quote (singles) are as my mind's eye recalls. Shout it out, tell the world. Let them know you are mad. That is what I say.

2. i can't imagine

i have three kids 'draft' age and i associate them with all the youngsters we've lost... for nothing. well, nothing but the almighty dollar that is. and that dollar goes to someone else. i feel for the parents of those who have been lost and those who are about to be shipped out. i understand the need for parents trying to justify putting those kids in harms way by believing the lies. what else can you do? i pity the poor kids going into this with eyes wide open, sans kool aid cocktail. it must be hell for them. this is the most horrific thing i've ever known in my life. it reminds me of sitting in front of the tv when i was a kid and getting the daily death toll from viet nam on the evening news. now we know those numbers were completely trumped up. i sincerely hope we do not have to wait 30+ years to find out the whole truth. it's all i can do to keep myself from being utterly distraught over this whole stupid war.
