Democrats Criticize Bush "Blunder" on Iraq Anniversary

WASHINGTON - Top Democrats made scathing attacks on President George W. Bush handling of the crisis in Iraq, one year after Bush triumphantly declared the end of major combat.

Senator Ted Kennedy said the entire Iraq episode "may well go down as the worst blunder in the entire history of American foreign policy," in comments ahead of the May 1 anniversary of Bush's speech on the USS Abraham Lincoln, at which he hailed the US troops who ousted Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

"Iraq is George Bush's Vietnam," the Massachusetts senator told the US Senate.

"By going to war in Iraq, President Bush squandered the immense good will of the world community that we had won in the wake of 9/11," said Kennedy, one of the chief backers of Democratic presidential contender Senator John Kerry.

Democrats have criticized Bush ever since his speech on the aircraft carrier one year ago when he spoke to US forces with a banner proclaiming "mission accomplished" in the background.

78. 1 million people to give $20 per month - automatically deducted from
your credit card every month would finance the building of a 50 state party with a national message where people in every state in the country could go on local or national shows and have a consistent message and narrative BECAUSE the Democrats don't have that right now. We are 30 years behind the Republicans in this and we need to catch up with them to win. - paraphrasing Howard.

I just love the Democracy Bonds idea.

80. I've signed up! Have all of you (those of you who can .....
afford $20. a month). I've signed for $25 a month and I'm retired and on a fixed income. It is the only way we are going to get big corporations and big money out of our elections--grassroots giving a little bit monthly; and Howard will use it wisely to train the grassroots and get them on the streets!

87. My problem is I'm currently staying home with little kids and my
Husband is a Republican.

I would freak if he gave those bastards any money and I always plead the fifth when he asks if I've given anyone any money (what he doesn't know wont hurt him, thank God I pay the bills, and I try to be quick about getting to the mail first). I know I'd get nailed if I gave every month.

I'm definitely getting my Mom to do it though.

I have noticed ads for the Democracy Bonds on multiple progressive blogs.

93. He is actually not into politics at all but was brainwashed, er I mean
raised by a very Republican family - every friggin person is a Republican (Faux zombies) except for me and one other Outlaw (brother-in-law by marriage). Maybe some of them have changed and I'm not aware of it. We don't talk politics. We used to be able to but that time has loonngggg passed.

I think I have a better shot of getting him to just not vote then switch.

I don't think he really buys into their crap. I mentioned during a rant that they were cutting kids off food stamps so his Dad could keep his tax cut. He was shocked and asked where I heard that - to which I replied "I read the news" (My FIL used the tax cut to buy a boat after Bush won the election - My husband made the mistake of telling me his Dad was going to buy a new boat if Bush won - the boat is now named Lucy for Lucifer).

There is probably way too much information in this post. Sorry.

104. Argghh. I really want to. I've given to the DCCC twice lately and
once to my state party. I also keep the DU donations on the QT.

I think this is so important.

An undercover/witness protection program for some donations would be funny - something innocuous looking on the credit card statement.

62. Dean is doing a great job on Hardball.
Matthews asked a great question about why the Democratic leaders aren't saying this war was a blunder, a mistake like Dean is. I want to know too. We need Democrats with backbone standing up to these thugs in this administration. So far, I only see Dean and Democrats in the House doing this.

seriously, I've seen nearly every Dean Hardball appearance. they act like giddy schoolgirls together.

the thing about chris matthews is that he'll ride your butt if you don't get to the point. he doesn't have that problem with Dean.

he's ALWAYS been this way. Always. In fact, I watched him lapse right into his old stump speech at one point. It was true and relevant then, it's true and relevant now. I was surprised, tho, that Matthews didn't call him on that.
