Please DU this poll once more
Edited on Wed Jun-29-05 11:58 PM by Erika
It's turned into a raging roller coaster war between the ultra right and the rest of us. Again, our democratic mayor arranged to have the 10 Commandments moved from a public park where it had been since DeMille's promotion of the movie, to a private church yard across from the Idaho Statehouse. He did so because Fred Phelps threatened to post a hate monument to gays and Matthew Shepard in that public park since we had allowed one monument there already.

Now, the ultra far right is stirring up trouble by insisting that the 10 Commandments be moved back there. Their leader, showed up as an activist, on behalf of Terri's parents in Florida. These people are truly rabid.

Earlier today, the poll was almost 50-50. This is a Fox right wing radio station that carries Hannity, Ingraham, Savage, and O'Reilly.

Thanks.

doesn't ship all its potatoes elsewhere.

edit: Question. Isn't the church thrilled to have it?

4. Boise is a democratic stronghold
and an urban area which does not identify with the surrounding red. But the surrounding red never gives up on trying to overrun us.

Thanks for the vote.

A little island of sanity in a sea of chaos? :)

10. Boise rocks!
Moved here in December and I'm loving it.

Great town, great people.

So what the hell is Phelp's sudden fascination with Idaho?

5. Hey, I heard something hilarious on Charlie Rose about all
these 10 commandment deals.

I don't remember her name, but a historian said that most of them were donated by Cecil B. deMille as PROMO FOR HIS MOVIE! He'd offer the thing and then send along one of the stars in the movie to dedicate it.

So much for godless Hollywood. :)

8. Yes, over 50,000 monuments
were given to public entities to sell the movie. This one was one of them. There was never a complaint or even a comment about the placement of the monument here until Fred Phelps wanted to place a monument at this park saying "Matthew Shepard went to hell on such a date (his date of death)" and claimed he had the right to do so since we had allowed the 10 Commandments monument to be placed in the park.

Again, our democratic mayor, made a deal with a private church that they would buy and display the monument in their church yard, located right across from the statehouse. It was a perfect resolution. But now some right wing rabble rousers want to cause a problem.

Thanks for your vote.
