Look who's liberal according to Kenneth Tomlinson (CPB Chairman)
I was listening to Wisconsin Public Radio this morning and heard a report about how Tomlinson hired a conservative activist to see if there was any liberal bias on PBS. The consultant divided all the guests on PBS into categories on whether they were liberal, conservative, or neutral. Well, Chuck Hagel, Republican Senator from Nebraska was labeled as a liberal!

9. Not since Lowell Weicker resigned from the GOP
He was pretty liberal & spoke out strongly against Nixon during the Watergate hearings... he was defeated for Senate in 1988 by Joe Lieberman, who ran to his right...

3. Yep. Hagel said things critical of bushco so he is a liberal
in newspeak, liberal = anything critical of the lies and bullshit talking points of any particular day in RoveWorld.

5. This Dude Keeps Digging Himself Deeper
Didn't Tomlinson get the message last week? CPB funding wasn't slashed...even his hand-picked GOOP operative at PBS is distancing herself from him.

Thanks to MoveOn, Congress got the message not to screw with CPB, just like they got the message not to let the FCC let the large corporate from gobbling up even more broadcast stations.

Now, did the host ask Mr. Tomlinson if a study about "conservative bias" was done as well? Just play Cokie (The Cokester) Roberts and I rest my case.

6. Was public broadcasting funding fully restored?
I lost track of the story, but I thought it was cut by some amount.

Don't tell me about Cokie the Conservative--tell public radio. I wrote to NPR and my local station when this Tomlinson political campaign started. My local station told me they were sending my comment about NPR war coverage to the supposed-ombudsman and public broadcasting management. You can find some email addresses at www.npr.org :)

7. Yep...All Restored
Earl Baumhauer (hope I didn't mess up his name)...Representative from Oregon did a great job in summing up what was going on here.

Tomlinson got spanked by his own stations...many got on the air with announcements to contact congressmen and so on and this is what defeated the bill.

Most of the money that would have been cut would have been "infrastructure" money...the dollars to keep transmitters and stations running...not for the producing of the dreaded "librul" programming these wingnuts thought they'd get rid of or control.

Tomlinson's gonna "Michael Powell" himself...talk himself both out of relevancy and then out of the job. This regime doesn't like squeeky wheels and loose cannons.

Cheers

10. I'd like to see a primary source for this
all the links seem to deadend or go to a related story. Not that I don't believe the reports, Tomlinson is a partisan hack, hired to eliminate one of the last vestibules of balanced journalism.
