Can't make this up - Pentagon says they use ice cream for info at Gitmo
Aside from a bunch of malarkey about how prisoners there for 3 years are giving them info that is useful now and how they handle the Koran wearing surgical gloves (yes, that's what they said), the Pentagon says this:

"far from torturing prisoners, ice cream and candy bars are sometimes used to induce them to give up information, as "part of a rapport-building effort on the part of interrogators."

1. Yeah? They should have
thought of that in the first place. Instead of torturing all those people and making a sham of the US military at gitmo.

4. Handle the Koran with surgical gloves?
Naturally. First, they smear it in excrement.

6. Anyone that believes a printed up menu proves anything
Edited on Thu Jun-30-05 11:07 AM by Solly Mack
just wants to be lied to...

I wonder just how stupid members of Congress have to be to actually believe that detainees are eating the same food served at a military Mess Hall.

I'm just saying...I don't buy the ice cream bs either

8. Hell the GIs at the mess halls in Iraq are eating outdated food...
provided by Halliburton/Bushco! The witness in the congressional hearing the other day, said that some of the outdated food was as much as a year outdated! Must be outdated ice cream at Gitmo...

11. Exactly. At Camp Bucca, where my husband lived outside of in a tent city
Edited on Thu Jun-30-05 11:21 AM by Solly Mack
while he was waiting to re-deploy back to the states...soldiers "out-processed" at a tent city located just outside the wire at Bucca...he saw "tupperware" containers of soup being delivered from the mess to the prison for the "detainees".

He and I were talking about the "Lemon-Chicken" menu and he said "surely people aren't that stupid?"

13. Here is the skinny on the hearing the other day and it ties right...
in with what you were told about the "Leftovers"...

Halliburton Hearing Unearths New Abuse

snip>

Spoiled Food and Leftovers

A third witness at the hearing was Rory Maryberry, a former Halliburton
contractor who worked at the dining facilities in Camp Anaconda. Located just north of Baghdad, near the town of Balad, Anaconda is the largest United States military base in Iraq.

Mayberry worked for Halliburton in Iraq from February to April 2004. He claims the company charged the Army for 20,000 meals a day when it was only serving 10,000 during his tenure. Subsequenttly he says he was punished for speaking to auditors by being banished to the more dangerous outpost of Falluja.

In a video-taped deposition shown during the packed hearing, Mayberry
explained how the company would sometimes supply food that was over a year past the expiration date or had spoiled due to inconsistent refrigeration. When the United States military occasionally refused the spoiled food, Halliburton truckers were instructed to take them to the next base in the hope that they would escape scrutiny.

Worst affected were the non-American workers. Mayberry says that Halliburton was supposed to feed 600 Turkish and Filipino meals. "Although KBR charged for this service, it didn't prepare the meals. Instead, these workers were given leftover food in boxes and garbage bags after the troops ate. Sometimes there were not leftovers to give them," said Mayberry. MUCH MORE....

So this is how Dick's company supports the troops!

9. it's probably more like, "Tell us what we want to know, or...
... we'll lock you in the ice cream freezer again. And we might forget to let you out this time...".

Really, now! Who on earth would spill the beans just for a chocolate bar?
