Iran's New President may have been My captor states a Wisconsin Hostage

or at least that is what Kevin Hermining said this morningon the radio.

If this is true it will cause trouble no doubt about it, the new Iranian president is already making bellicose statements about exporting their revolution (Yahoo news, yesterday), this will not help.

If we are not careful Iran will become an even bigger pain in the neck regarding Iraq than they already are.

Relations with the west are dicey as it is concerning Iran and this will not help at all.

It will give Bush a ready made excuse to be a hard A** about the Iranians, and the public may be inclined to back him up more readily since the Iranian leader was a possible terrorist (words I heard used on the radio this morning).

Any way it is sliced this is not a positive development for peace.

Am I understanding you correctly? You were one of the Iranian hostages during the Carter admin.? And released the day after? Raygun took office?! Am I remembering this correctly?

I was sooo suspicious when the release came after the inauguration.
What's your take on this? Were deals made to make Raygun look good?

Do these assholes EVER quit spinning lies?! I'm hearing nearly the same propaganda over Iran that we heard on Iraq. And there are reports coming out that we are already in Iran bombing.

5. Wooh Guys I misstated the title of this thread.

I am sorry I was quoting a captor from Wisconsin on WTMJ radio this morning.

I can't get anything to listen to but conservative talk where I live and Charlie Sykes is the least offensive to listen too.

I am very very sorry if some one thinks I was one of the original hostages.

I was not.

I was stationed at Great Lakes at the time on USN active duty.

that was cleared up quickly. The important point remains: will our administration still think democracy is a noble thing in the Middle East, when it appears that Iran elected a radical fellow who possibly was one of the students who held Americans hostage decades ago?

11. Boy I sure hope we handle this well

it does not need to degenerate into a problem, the Iranians elected and we should deal with him (although carefully when it comes to the nuke issue).

I see no reason for animosity between us and Iran, besides the hostage crises of over 25 years ago, the Iranians have never done anything to us, that I know of (except make bellicose statement concerning Israel, and we can put up with than - See Saudi Arabia) that merits a conflict.

that requires a degree of maturity and insight that those in leadership positions in this administration have never shown. Our country has people who are capable, without any risk to our nation's best interest, of communicating with these leaders in Iran. (And I do not suggest that we send Ollie with a bible and cake.) We do not live in a world where we have the luxury of ignorance in the form of unbridaled nationalism.

Although I favor some of the democrats -- including some not in elected office -- I'd feel far better if a man like Dick Armitage were involved.

Sykes invaded my radio on several occassions through an odd overlap between the position of the tuner for the Chicago NPR outlet, on FM, and his AM frequency, which reaches down here on summer days sometimes. If he is the least offensive available...good Lord, Sir!

1. Compare the new Iranian President to the hostage captor... they *really* do NOT look alike. This is just another case of white Americans not being able to tell two people of a "different ethnicity" apart.
   
2. The Iranian people have the right to elect anyone they choose to elect. It's their democracy, not ours.
   
3. This all appears to be a new Bush/media trick to create a new Saddam Hussein, in order to build a case for a new war (read: naked aggression). Ain't buying it, this time--"Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me".
