Woohoo! I donated $10 to Amnesty International!
Okay, that really isn't much, but I'm low income and most months I barely have enough food to get through the month. Well, this month I did it with ten bucks over, so I had to decide who to donate it to. Amnesty International won out because they're calling for an independent commission to investigate the torture at Abu Ghraib, Afghanistan, Guantanamo, and other U.S. prisons.

They're having a matching campaign that ends today, so every dollar given is worth twice as much--my piddling little donation doubled itself and that makes me feel good.

Besides, I don't like BFEE smearing them. And, like all sentient beings except for fascists, I hate torture.

3. Good! A great organization. We give and write letters.
And, they will send you a nifty little bumpersticker to piss off the rednecks.

4. Good for you.
If you want to help Amnesty for the price of a stamp, join its letter-writing campaigns to free political prisoners - it really works.

11. Right now I'm plumb out of stamps.

I spent a lot of time getting people to sign letters to the Voting Panel in Sacramento in hopes that they wouldn't recertify Diebold, and in many cases I had to address the envelopes and put postage on them myself. (That was another major expense this month, so I'm really astonished that I still came out ahead.)

But I've signed up online and will do whatever I can.

12. That's impressive, IChing!

You must be a wonderful person to have raised such a good son. Not everybody can get a job with one of the foremost human rights groups in the world--it takes an outstanding humanitarian. Ya done good!

Yea, I'm proud, it's also hard to get a full time job in Denmark.

He has dual citizenship and speaks and reads both languages fluently.
His Danish grandfather was a resistance fighter hero in WWII.
His American grandfather was a silver star and Distinguish Flying Cross recipient

I feel safe for him in Denmark he could be drafted here.

:applause: Every penny helps. They really are a great organization. I hadn't gotten around to renewing my membership this year, so when everyone was attacking them a month or so ago, it felt so good to write that check and thank them for their efforts on humankind's behalf.

I hope that much good karma comes your way; I'm sure that you had many other things that you would have liked to do for yourself with your extra money. Instead, you did something that will certainly help the world.

13. Awwwww shucks, lol!

I'm just a sneaky noaccount bum. I figured that if I posted here, it might remind someone with more money than I have that today is the last day for their matching campaign. I don't deserve credit for a dirty trick like that. But I'll admit that I could have spent that $10.00 in a restaurant instead. Trouble is that I find it hard to eat when I'm thinking about Abu Ghraib.

Thanks for wishing me good karma. I think I must have earned some in a past life, because I haven't been good enough in this one to deserve what I've got. And thanks for helping AI. :grouphug:
