Army Recruiting Up in June

WASHINGTON - The Army cut into its recruiting deficit slightly in June but still faces a daunting battle to meet its annual goal of 80,000 new enlistees.

Army recruiters enlisted 6,157 new soldiers this month, 507 more than its goal, Army officials said Wednesday.

The June surplus breaks a string of four straight months in which the Army missed it goals by wide margins.

....

The Army's success in June can be partly attributed to modest expectations. The June 2005 goal was more than 1,000 recruits lower than the June 2004 goal.

Pretty tricky...

1. High school graduation/delayed entry - in addition to lowering the goal
June has always been a good month for enlistments.

Generally though, it's been way better than the current numbers.

Since they lowered the numbers, they are still 500 short

They used a Bush fuzzy math budget gimmick.

3. Which means
That the Army dropped its required numbers after the May fiasco. But they still won't meet the requirement set for FY2005, to meeet that number the Army had to recruit at least 8,000 per month after May's numbers came out.

The Army has basically lied, but what's new.

11. Still that's
6,157 people willing to take a crap shoot on Iraq. Not nearly enough, though, to replace the wounded and dead.

4. Their credibility is so bad that I don't believe this
They have lowered their standards. I wonder whether their alleged upsurge in recruitment is due to recalling people who had been rejected before. It'll be a small blip. Once they've exhausted their former rejects, there will be the shortfall again.

6. TIME FOR A DEBUNKING! See within! n/t
May's recruiting goal was 6700 (down from just over 8000) and they signed up just over 5000.

June's recruiting goal was 5650 (down from May's 6700) and they signed up 6150. This is even LOWER than May's goal.

14. Probably not many
Lower standards, ease up on training, you know, warm bodies to ship to the front lines. Lie to them a little: You're not going to Iraq, son, now line up for shots and desert training".

8. There you go!
Just keep reducing the number of the goal and pretty soon you will always have surpluses. By the way 12x5650=67800, not 80000. And traditionally, the summer months are the big recruiting months - hard to find jobs, just out of school, money short, that sort of thing...

12. Yeah, right.
It would be interesting to see the mindset of the ones who enlisted.

13. Wonder how many are Republican, Bush supporters
or children of Bush supporters who enlisted to defend America and do the right thing?

Maybe, 5%, tops? Or is that too high?
