The prospect of a Draft is becoming more of a reality as time goes on and these criminals continue down the path of destruction.

My sons are registered with SSS, one 20, the other 19. They are against the war in Iraq.

My sons have to die because Bush lied and fucked up?

What is a concerned parent to do?

I would resist with force if I had to. I don't want to have to have it come to that.

God, I hate these fucking assholes in D.C.

and DU has some international support. I'm suggesting an "underground railroad" for those opposed to the war if needed.

I hope you are right about the riot thing, seriously, but I am not in a position to gaugue the American people's willingness to resist in such a manner, so I cannot say.

That being said, this is a good argument for the "gradual draft" argument that others have fielded. First, it will be "special skills" people drafted, so hardly anyone would notice. Once that is accepted, they might ratchet it up to potheads and whatnot. Who knows where they will go?

But a general draft might trigger a backlash. Better let the next 9/11 occur before they roll out the general draft, but I wouldn;t be surprised if such a plan isn't on the neo-con buffet table of stinky tricks.

It is better to go to jail than to kill for corporations; they don't HAVE to go, but the consequences of getting caught are serious and lead to the pokey.

Yeah...get 'em out, but they still may be wanted until a liberal Democratic President can pardon them for resisting the Machine.

18. It's more likely to be believed if you have a record of belonging there.

I heard sometime last year that the church brothers had done some negotiating with the fed drfat board so that their members would only be put in support or desk jobs if there was a draft and they had to serve in some capacity.

I'm pretty certain it was posted here at DU. It was a small article but I definitely took notice of it.

23. I married a Dutch man and lived in Holland for a couple years

I lost my passport though and need to get it for myself and my kids. Who knows what "draft age" will be - I'm 30 and could be considered that.

12. Bernie Ward of KGO radio talks about this now and then

He has a son that will be of draft age soon. What they did was to start an activity and paper trail to prove that his son is a pacifist. I'm sure someone may post asserting that this doesn't matter and yadda-yadda. But I will suggest that you do some Googling about steps your sons can start taking now. And look into the Quakers as they have always been on the right side of helping people with this issue. I'm sure I saw a site of theirs that enlightens people on what steps to take before there is a draft.

And don't forget that if there's a draft - we will be on the streets before Congress even has a chance to vote on it.

16. I know people locally who sheltered Central Am. refugees during the 80's

I know of churches who did so, too.

I'm sure those same people will be sheltering draftees if a draft comes to pass. I might be too, if I'm not too busy 'taking it to The Man' at the time....
