i think gop convention '04 in NY will backfire
Edited on Wed Sep-24-03 07:41 PM by ann_coulter_is_a_man
at first i though it was dispicable but someting that would play perfectly for rove. now i think the whole 'milk 9-11' strategy is going to blow up in their face. between bush's tv address and un speech falling flat, i think he's used all of the mileage from the deaths of 3,000 americans that he can

and the protestors will certainly not help him

1. If they could move it they would
Trust me, they know how screwed they really are. There only hope is a massive economic recovery.

3. whatever became of the ballot deadline issue?
where bush wouldn't be able to make the ballot in certain states because of the lateness of the convention. did the democratic legislatures in those states cave and let him change the rules?

i haven't heard anything about it here in wv

4. Better Than That
Edited on Wed Sep-24-03 07:45 PM by Don_G
Was the premature EPA report claiming the toxic cloud of dust from the WTC collapse was "safe." It was released due to pressure from the White House.

Can you imagine how much security the GOP is going to need?

5. I can't speak for everyone
...but I live in New York and when I found out they were going to have the convention here it made me completely nauseous, as it did for everyone else I told. It would have been unpopular here anyway, no matter how Bush was doing, but given his recent dive in the polls I don't see how the decision to have the convention here could be viewed as anything but completely transparent.

Bush is not fucking welcome here, and he never was, except for the week of 9-11, and that ended pretty damn quick. Before October 2001 everyone here hated him again already.

6. Isn't it delicious?
Every single strategy the Republicans are concocting seems to be backfiring on them.

Today, no kidding, I saw between 200 and 250 cops on my commute home from work today due to the heads of state visiting town. I can only imagine the kind of security constraints we'll be seeing.

There are a lot of angry people here. And it's going to get worse, not better, before convention time.

9. Isn't it romantic...
The funny thing is that NYC has always been city non grata for the Republicans since time immemorial, or at least since the famous "FORD TO NYC: DROP DEAD" headline. Last election they didn't even bother to campaign here, since they knew we would go overwhelmingly for Gore (4:1, baby!). It just goes to show how out of touch they are.

8. Tricky Math
30 million people live in NY, NJ, and Connecticut. All with in a day trips range of NYC. If just 1 out of every 300 of them can be convinced to protest the Chimp, that is 100,000 bodies in the streets. Think about the image of tens of thousands of people in the streets asking for the Chimp to go.

I bet the RNC is trying desperately to find a face saving way to move the convention.

13. Tee hee
"I bet the RNC is trying desperately to find a face saving way to move the convention."

And there's nothing they can do! Ha ha! Can you imagine if they DID move it? What possible PR spin could they put on that one? It would look like either they were fleeing out of terror, or dropping the city due to cynical strategy! Ha ha ha ha!!! So they have no choice but to come someplace where they're as welcome as a herpes outbreak.

That'll work too. As much as I would love to see them go down in flames here in my own hometown, I would be much happier if they just didn't show up.

14. I'll bet the PNAC/BFEE cabal will call out their special ops people,
and conduct another "attack" before the convention, giving the Repugs reason, and an excuse, to move the convention elsewhere. No way it's going ahead in N.Y.......

20. I would like to be one of the Protesters of that convention in NYC.
I saw today on DU, though, that bloomberg wasn't going to give permits for the demonstators...I find that hard to believe that bloomberg can't be persuaded to do the right thing.

21. Believe it
Bloomberg is an asshole. He is truly a little piece of shit. He has truly earned his 25% approval rating, yet he still goes around talking about how he's going to get re-elected.

I didn't vote for him, and everyone I know who did vote for him now lies about it.

Sorry, just venting. But anyway, it's no surprise that he would try to supress protests. He sucks and he can always be counted on to do exactly the wrong thing.

23. Bloomie won't have any choice
He can not issue permits all he wants. The ACLU will have a different opinion, and take his ass to court. I don't smoke, but I almost want to, just to piss him off.

Bloomberg won't be able to stop it. There will be a massive movement of outraged citizens there.
