4. ROFLMAO!
Oh yeah, I'm sure that Californians would love to live in a state that's modeled after Texas. :puke:

I think Ahnold just screwed up because Texas = Bush.
I thought Ahnold wasn't supposed to be Bush's guy.

5. We also have a regressive sales tax,
crappy schools, high dropout rate, high teen pregnancy rates, and $12 billion shortfall in our budget thanks in part to W giving it away when he was gov. Yeah, Ahnold, model yourself after Texas and see how long before YOU'RE recalled!

6. Apologies to Texans
But I was running in CA, I'd show the stats on Texas' standing in pollution, education, taxes, etc. and quote Arnold. Then I'd ask, "Is that what YOU want CA to be?" I think that's the end of Arnold.

7. Texans ...
Please understand we're not dumping on you, we're dumping on your Government. Not that other state's are all that much better, but at least they don't have Tom DeLay! ;-)

9. Indeed! Thanks for pointing that out.
I lived in TX for three years. I've found that most of them are human. :)

your "apology" post because that's what made me realize I might have offended some Texans and I certainly don't want to do that. :-)

10. Thanks, but we're outnumbered by
the greedy and those that identify with them, especially the religious right, and those that are too stupid to see what a catastrophe these repukes have created.

19. Can the Texans here summarize the recent Texas record for me?
Edited on Wed Sep-24-03 10:51 PM by eablair3
I've read much about Texas including the relaxing or reversing the many environmental laws which allowed the big businesses to prosper while the people suffered with the waterways and air being polluted, esp around Houston.

I've read and heard some by Jim Hightower, but haven't read his book.

Arnold claimed that Texas committed $140 BILLION (that's correct) to infrastructure -- ports, railways, transportation systems etc. Is this correct? Is it a giveaway to companies?

Arnold was talking of Texas surpassing California in exports. Maybe Arnold wants to open up the coast to oil drilling to beef up California exports?

13. It takes a while for sound from California to...
... reach here, but I just heard what sounded like three-fourths of Californians going, "Eeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwww!"

Cheers.

15. I was hoping that one of the others would pick up on it
Arnold made that comment in talking about infrastructure, and it was made towards the end, right before the final closings. I thought for sure that at least one of the others would pick up on it in the closing segment, but they did not. I've not read real favorable things on Texas' environmental issues etc as others mentioned above. Plus, Enron who played a part in robbing Californians is from Texas, and something could have been made about that, as well.

I haven't seen any of the pundits afterwards mention this "we should model ourselves after Texas" comment.

get money from the state.

16. What was the point of having a moderator?
For the life of me, I could not figure out why they had that idiot sitting there. He had absolutely no ability to moderate, and he was hideously (almost offensively) obvious in favoring Ahnuld.

California Broadcaster's Association also clearly does not believe in using union help, since the audio and video quality was on par with local access cable...

This wasn't professionally done by any means.

20. No Apologies to TX
For years TX, a rich state by comparison, has ranked 3rd from the bottom in the amount of public assistance, just above Mississippi and Alabama (apologies to Mississippi & AL).

Bush* is just the first time Texas-style government has gone national.

And boy it sure isn't pretty.
