Kucinich is the only candidate who...
http://neighborsforpeaceandjustice.org/KucinichIsTheOnly.htm

Only one candidate for President voted against the misnamed "Patriot Act."

Only one candidate plans to introduce legislation in Congress to repeal the "Patriot Act."

Only one candidate has declared without hesitation that he will vote against the Bush request for $87 billion in additional funds to continue the quagmire in Iraq.

Only one candidate has submitted a bill to Congress that would establish genuinely universal health coverage -- nonprofit national health insurance for all.

Only one candidate will withdraw from corporate trade deals like NAFTA and the WTO, and replace them with fair trade agreements that include labor and environmental protections.

Only one candidate has a plan to cut the bloated military budget by 15% ($60 billion annually) and invest those funds in universal child care.

Only one candidate sued George Bush to stop him from going to war in
Iraq without a Congressional Declaration of War.

Only one candidate led opposition in Congress to the War in Iraq.

Only one candidate has a plan to repeal Bush's tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and invest that money in a plan for universal public education, age 3-college.

Only one candidate has pledged to break up corporate monopolies in
agriculture, energy, media and other sectors that are strangling farmers, the environment and the public.

I am really excited about this. Kucinich is a real Democrat (not that the others aren't, please don't flame me). You just know where you stand with him and I really like that.

can't get on the Magic Mountain ride?

Look, in an idyllic world, DK would be a fine prez. I believe that because his position is the closest to my own.

But this is the real world and as much as it pains me to say it, he has less than a snowball's chance. Less, even. More like ZERO. Ain't gonna happen, no how no way.

Working up a sweat for someone you really like is no vice, it's admirable, but there has to be some point where we have to step back and look the grotesque face of reality eyeball to eyeball. Even in a FAIR election (a questionable proposition as things stand now) Bunnypants would beat him like a bad piece of meat. Them's the facts, folks.

It gives me no pleasure to pee on anyone's parade, I promise.

Anyone but Bush? Someone has to get elected. In this economically crappy age... I think Dennis would fare quite well. People of all ilks are disturbed by this.

We can elect this man. He can awaken the non-voting liberal majority. And we can usher in a new progressive era.

Anything less is defeatist. The RW gives us ample ammo to use against themselves, they just trust we will not use it.

Due to FDR, we canoot easily go into a real depression. But the momentum the Bush administration has given, going from a 200mil+ surplus to a 600mil+ dept, gives us liberals alot of sway.

This man can change the course of the world. I'll be vocal, and I have registered Democrat to give him my primary vote.

To dream the impossible dream,
to fight the unbeatable foe,
to bear with unbearable sorrow,
to run where the brave dare not go...

To right the unrightable wrong,
to love pure and chaste from afar,
to try when your arms are too weary
to reach the unreachable star!

This is my quest --
to follow that star
no matter how hopeless,
no matter how far --
To fight for the right
without question or pause,
to be willing to march into hell
for a heavenly cause!

to painting Kucinich as unelectable. We don't know who's electable and who's not until the votes are counted (if they're counted, not always a sure thing these days). Remember how unelectable Paul Wellstone was before the Senate election? Remember how electable he was afterwards?

Proof? Look at candidate stickdog supports. It wasn't all that long ago that Dean was unelectable. Funny how things can change.

http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/219/oped/_Unelectable_frontrunner_+.shtml

'Unelectable' frontrunner?

A CANDIDATE'S ''electability'' used to be decided on election day. Now, it is the purview of political consultants and media commentators who rule on it months before anyone actually casts a vote. That makes it the next big test Howard Dean must pass -- and he knows it. As Steve Grossman, former head of the Democratic National Committee and now co-chair of the Dean presidential campaign, describes it, Dean's opponents are working to portray him ''as a wacked-out liberal. They are trying to create the image of a guy who is unelectable.''

The Dean campaign is well aware of the risk of being painted the wrong -- or left -- way. ''Howard Dean is going to have to do everything he can to define who he is and what he stands for before other people do it in an inaccurate and hostile way,'' says Grossman.

In the meantime, Grossman cites three specific examples of what he views as an orchestrated effort by Democrats to paint Dean, a fellow Democrat, as ''unelectable'':

Repeated warnings by the Democratic Leadership Council, a so-called moderate group of Democrats who helped elect Bill Clinton to the White House in 1992, that the party cannot afford to present itself as ''too far left.'' The shots at Dean, comments Grossman, ''have been excessively harsh.'' But ''it has had no impact on our campaign. It has enhanced Howard's appeal.''

48. In NH, where they are paying attention to the race
Dean: Favorable - 66%, Unfavorable - 9%
Kucinich: Favorable - 12%, Unfavorable - 18%

Dean: almost 30%
Kucinich: almost 2%

So, something obviously isn't working for Dennis in NH.

Can you imagine what this might be?

Note that the numbers aren't much better in Iowa, either.

50. You got me. I agree that from now on all candidates who fail to earn
substantial support several months before the actual date of an election should drop out. See ya' Graham and Edwards. Your NH numbers suck.

Seriously, no one would argue Kucinich doesn't face an uphill fight. So would any candidate whose position on crucial issues is so threatening to established power. Money and free media coverage are inevitably hard to come by. To some degree (not completely), this explains the disparity between the NH numbers you site.

National elections in the US aren't limited, at least not yet, to centrists and right wingers. If Kucinich can organize and figure out ways to make his positions known to voters, he will increase his support and his "unelectability" quotient will decrease. The difficulties he faces in successfully doing this, difficulties any seriously left of center candidate would face, hardly argue he not even try.

Julie, other than the debates, have you actually seen Dennis speak? He's hardly "shrill", as you suggest. He's a great speaker, and conversationalist, and talks directly to people. He and Wellstone are the the only two politicians I've known who can speak like this and connect with people.

If you're going to critique a candidate, do it on the important stuff, like the issues. Otherwise you compromise your own credibility.

Which has defeated more Republican opponents in heavily Republican districts?

Which candidate has the platform that most Democrats support?

Which candidate, after the NH debates, has the largest support among Hispanic voters?

Which candidate has voted not only against the war in Iraq, but also against the so-called "Patriot Act"?

I'll give you a hint: it ain't Howard Dean.
