Suddenly, I'm really, really nervous about Carol Moseley Braun!
Just kidding!...

I admire her a lot. We've got a pretty good crop of candidates this time. Each one contributes something unique to the national discussion, and that's a good thing.

The way I see it, Dubya has to be contratulated. I don't think any other president has managed to be responsible for THREE regime changes at once: Iraq, UK, USA!

14. Ridiculing Female Candidates
It's always good sport to make fun of women who get too uppity. Imagine, a woman with the audacity to declare her candidacy to be the head of the federal government!

You need to look at your attitudes. The fact that women are still unequal in America isn't a joke.

15. I wasn't intending to make a joke about Carol
She was just the most recent to declare, and no one was talking about her. I was making a joke about the tiresome "Suddenly!" threads! I think others picked up on it.

I regret if you were offended, but if you had read my post I offered her praise. I seriously think the candidates who don't get as much press have a lot to contribute to the party and to the process. If fact, when some of the candidates names have long been forgotten, Carol Moseley Braun will still be talked about for her achievements.

3. I'm wondering is she is rehabilitating her image for another Senate run.
Some say she is running to take votes away from Sharpton, but that seems too tinfoil for me. But since the Republicans undermined Fitzgerald to run someone even more conservative, the 2004 Senate election is going to be a gimmie for *any* Democrat.

9. You noticed that too, huh?
Seems like the Republican stance right now is that any even occasionally contradictory statement will be crushed. If you're not 100% Trent Lott, you're not Republican. It's kind of too bad for them, but they're not going to get anyone more conservative to pass through Illinois right now. Last election cycle should have taught them that, but if they need a reminder, I'm sure they've got Judy Barr-Topinka's phone number.

4. Carol Moseley Braun

Has more balls than all the other candidates put together (yes Ok that's sexist, but "she has more ovaries" just doesn't have the same punch). I've not always agreed with her but in a perfect world I'd vote for her anyway. But we don't live in that perfect world. As much as it pains me to say it... I don't believe a woman candidate stands an ice cube's chance in hell in this country. Not yet at least.

12. Sexist Rhetoric
Edited on Wed Sep-24-03 11:16 PM by OrdinaryTa
Equating testicles with courage is sexist rhetoric. It's not amusing. It's also unsurprising that you don't think women have much chance of being elected to head the federal government.

Edit: typo

7. I believe she knows she couldn't win
but I believe anyone who can qualify should be able to run(even you or me) not just the career politicians. How about the diversity thing? She brings a perspective to the table too.

13. The Diversity Thing
There are actually more females than males, did you know that? Why aren't more women in serious contention to be the head of the federal government?

11. Punishing Female Candidates
The reason Mosely-Braun can run and other women can't is that she's out of office. Any other woman who might be "uppity" enough to seek the presidency would be punished: run out of town, ridiculed, and denied support for re-election to whatever office she currently holds.

In post-millennial America .... supposedly one of the advanced nations of the world .... we have ten male candidates for the presidency, and only one female candidate. Even if the single female candidate had a chance of being elected, these numbers do not reflect the percentage of women in the population. Even more appalling is the fact that women themselves don't demand female candidates.

What's up with this?
