Clearing up Dean's view on Medicare
Here is a link to his testimony in Washington on the issue. It includes his recommendations for changes in Medicare and talks about what he did in Vermont. It portrays a far different picture than those partial quotes coming from Gephardt's anti-Dean web page. I also trust testimony in it's entirety much more than partial quotes that have been butchered to misrepresent Dean's views.

1. Thank you for that link.
I had not seen that before. I can see the doctor in him coming out in those statements.

3. Of all the candidates I trust Dean to be the one
to actually put health care up front as an issue should he become President. As a physician, he knows the obstacles to attaining these goals better that the rest of the candidates and he knows what weapons to bring to the fight against the for profit health care industry in this country. I first became impressed with Dean when he was governor of Vermont and was interviewed on 60 Minutes about health care at a time when no politician would touch the health care issue after Hillary's plan got shot down in flames.

5. You're right on that
And I can damn near guarantee that those comments of Dean's that Gephardt is highlighting was born from Dean's frustration of trying to provide care for people and having the federal rules of the system prevent him from doing the right thing for those on Medicare. What people need to remember is that just because someone criticizes a program, it doesn't mean that they criticize what the program is supposed to do. Quite often they criticize it because it's not doing the job it could. That's the case with Dean on these issues. He believes in those services, but sees barriers that keep them from working as well as they could. And he's absolutely right.

9. After Hillary's plan gor shot down in flames
Sens. Kerry and Kennedy went to work on the parts of her bill that they knew would pass through Congress. They crafted the CHIPS bill that extended health coverage to children all over the country.

Former governors of states like Texas took credit for the CHIPS bill's success in their states during their own campaigns.
