WTF Arnold gets 10 minutes post-debate
This is so unfair.

After 67% of Caleefornians said the debates are important to their decision making,
both Fox and CNN allow Arnold to do a 10 minute campaign commercial directly after the debates.

WTF???

The media sucks and we need to do something to change it.
ie: the fairness doctrine, distinguishing facts from opinions, disclaiming conflicts of interest, etc.

1. There is no fairness doctrine, don't you remember,
Raygun knocked it out in '86!

2. The moderator was also highly biased
Allowed "Ahnold" to go on ad infinitum and cutting off Arianna several times. Then there was that little "Governer Schwartzenneger" (sp?) Freudian slip.

Bustamante was wrongly advised to keep himself above the frey -- he looked like milquetoast. Bad mistake, IMHO. I think Huffington gained a lot of votes last night. "Ahnold" will keep his support among the macho low-brow set and Bustamante will keep his "principle" voters. McClintock wiil keep his fundie votes, Camejo his Green Votes. The only gains last night were for Huffington.

NO on the Recall
YES on Bustamante
NO on 53
NO on 54

VOTE OCTOBER 7. REPUBLICAN THEFT OF FAIR AND LEGAL ELECTIONS STOPS IN CALIFORNIA!

8. I liked Bustamante's "yes Arnold..uh huh Arnold....okay Arnold"
I only saw the news reports this morning but I liked the way (in that clip) he was pointing out that Arnold doesn't know what he is talking about.

3. 3 more points:
1. when Arianna spoke, the caption said "Arianna (I) Candidate"
When Shawrz spoke, the caption said "Shwarz. wants to lower taxes".

2.In post debate clips, they showed Bustamante talking about raising taxes (and the Indian money) rather than one of the many positive points he made.

3. This morning, everyone said Shwarz. "held his own" did fine, etc.
IMO, Shwarz did a terrible job...revisionist history?

9. Did it really say that? The "held his own" reminds me of W in 2000
The networks couldn't get on air fast enough to say that W had done okay or not as bad as some feared or didn't make a COMPLETE a** of himself.

*sigh* the soft bigotry of low expectations.

4. CNN will not be outfoxed in the pursuit of higher ratings.
It IS all about ratings.

Ted Turner, where are you when we really need you?

5. Another WTF moment is the faux newscaster at CSU
Does faux just round up all the repubs and tell them to hold up their signs in the background?????

They allow it on their morning shows in the background as well.

Does the "fair and balanced" network really think these subliminal messages work?

Finally doesn't the newscaster they always talk to look like the football jock from your high school who ended up selling used cars?

Just my rant...

6. Jesse VENTURA Slapped Tweety Around
Edited on Thu Sep-25-03 09:27 AM by UTUSN
Tweety had a rough night without his usual Peg NOONER on the panel. Instead he had VENTURA and Jerry BROWN. When he asked who had won, VENTURA came at him from off the wall with a tirade about how DAVIS had LOST because he was not invited, that this was unfair. Tweety tried to move on. VENTURA told him to hold his horses, that he had more to say. Tweety looked like he was pimp slapped. VENTURA then said that he was going to correct this slant by having DAVIS on the VENTURA show and let him have all the time he wanted, that Ahhhnuld is a friend of VENTURA's but that the recall is WRONG, that in Minnesota their recall mechanism calls for the merits of the petition to be REVIEWED by a court for CAUSE to remove the office holder, for some WRONG DOING. Then they had Ahhhnuld's "news conference" and VENTURA went off on another tirade about how this was special treatment since the other candidates were not given this extra air time. Tweety loves macho, but he's finding the limits to his love.

7. didn't see that part, did he make a coherant point there ?
he didn't manage to in the actual debate other than the check signing sting on Bustamante.

Camajo did really well. Huffington was as dreadful as Schwarzenegger, both are obvious dillitants who have no business being there. McClintock did himself some favors. Bustamante projected well but it'll be interesting to see how his ideas sit with the voters.

11. Arnold is almost always the first face in any news report on the recall
I sit in amazement at the blatant promotion of him.

Davis IS the office holder and the yes/no question on the recall IS first on the ballot so he should be the first person you see on newscasts but oh no it's ARNOLD ARNOLD ARNOLD.

12. His smiling picture is also on all the news websites
Where are the other candidates?

With luck, his "statue" will be torn down come the election day that never should have happened. Politics in the US is a joke. There's no democracy there anymore.

15. If it weren't ahhrnold running we wouldn't even be seeing this on TV
except CSPAN or something (those of us out of California). What makes this news is Arnold. Not to say it wouldn't be covered, but Arnold rbrings the circus. That doesn't make it right to give Arnold 90% of the attention, but the recall is now entertainment instead of news. Nevermind that we circumvent democracy when we treat an election the same way we J-Lo and Ben's latest spat....

16. We watched on local ABC station and they cut to a joinarnold rally
for comments about how he did. Surprize, they all were gaga over his performance! They then went to a local community college poli-sci class that was watching for their response.

The newswhoreporter at the pro-arnold site passed off to Thuy(pronounced Twee) Vu, who then said "Well our group here is not as uniform and supportive of one candidate as that" or close enough to it, and they showed 2-3 people who had kind things to say about Peter Camejo and Arianna with an honerable mention for Cruz.

About as Fair and Balanced(tm) as it gets!!
