Question regarding number of deaths due to Plame outing
Edited on Wed Jul-06-05 11:42 PM by The Traveler
Someone posted a link to an article which set the number of people murdered as a result of the exposure of Plame and her network at about 90. Anyone got a link to that? I need to shove it up Tucker Carlson's butt.

Thanks

1. Not so good. As far as I know it's not substantiated.
I posted it here and asked for sources to back it up. All the article said was something to the effect of "90 of her contacts were reportedly assassinated".

Not so good.

2. I found this - not what you are looking for but a historical analysis.
Outing Plame Is More Damaging than All Other American Scandals

By Andrew M. Schocket
Mr. Schocket is an assistant professor of history at Bowling Green State University and a writer for the History News Service.

This summer, apparently out of political motives, high Bush administration officials exposed the name of a CIA agent to columnist Robert Novak. For more than two months, the president did nothing to investigate or even denounce this serious breach of national security.

In the long list of presidential misdeeds and scandals, this one stands out. It's the first time a president has possibly connived at what was essentially an act of treason.

I'm looking for more info.

7. Her network of contacts was destroyed
Edited on Thu Jul-07-05 12:00 AM by ConsAreLiars
How many were killed is not public - classified stuff, you know. What is certain is that a covert operation that was uncovering information on the spread of "WMDs" was eliminated, thus providing aid and comfort to those who were engaged in such acts.

(edit to add a few more words)

12. I doubt we can ever know for sure....
In different places I have read 25, 60, 70 and 90. We will NEVER know for sure.

13. We'll never know. These people are still "under cover"...
the CIA can't release the names or numbers of those killed, because that could still put others still alive in jeopardy.

We can estimate, based on Valerie's estimated connections - but we can't even verify what her connections were. That's why she was "under-cover"

So, we can't prove or verify how many agents were killed because of Plame's outing - even doing that will put more agents at risk. That's why the penalties for outing an agent are as high as they are. No one person can tell publicly how many other agents were killed as a result. That would risk putting the existing agents in even more risk of being caught.
