Please, DU friends, lets show some sensitivity.
Edited on Thu Jul-07-05 05:08 AM by Maddy McCall
Right now, we have one DUer in London who's reporting what's happening to us, and one DUer who's husband is supposed to be boarding a plane in the region. And other DUers in London will be online later.

We only know that it appears to be a coordinated attack. We don't know who's responsible. We don't know how Bush will handle it. We don't know the extent of the damage, casualties, or deaths.

I'm not saying that I think we shouldn't discuss all of this. I'm just begging that we all demonstrate a degree of sensitivity, to the people who are experiencing this tragedy first hand, when we discuss it.

6. I have friends in London as well.
And if anyone says "We're fighting them there so we don't have to fight them here" to my face today, I'll knock them out. Period.

8. I too have a friend in London,
and I'm praying for his, and the rest of London's safety. This is a tragic day but the people of Britain are strong, resiliant, and proud people and they will rebound. Terrorism makes me sick...

13. My husband was supposed to be
Edited on Thu Jul-07-05 06:20 AM by tenshi816
on a train to King's Cross (where one of the bombs went off) this morning, but his meeting was postponed last night so he didn't have to go. Now I can't stop thinking about all the people who didn't get to stay away.

One thing that has always struck me about the British since I've lived over here is how strong they are. They lived through constant bombing in WWII, and with years of terrorism from the IRA. During all of that, they just got on with their lives - as my mother-in-law says, "Well, we had to, didn't we dear?". What has happened today is a great tragedy, but the British will not run and hide. They haven't cowered from terrorists before and they won't do it now. People will be more vigilant, but they won't become slaves to fear. Bet on it.

But, oh, what a sad, sad day this is.

Edited for grammar.

24. Thank you for your sensitivity, but
you'll perhaps forgive me for saying that over here right now we don't give a fuck how Bush will handle things. No offence intended towards you. The best thing for him to do would be to fuck off home, where he can perhaps get some more support for his war out of it. I only hope that Blair doesn't try to use it in the same way.

31. I hate days like this..... besides the obvious reasons...
my wife flies to NYC on Sunday, no worries there but yeah I wouldn't want to fly today.

Though honestly hijackings are sure to fail these days... everyone thinks they are going to die anyways so they revolt against their captors. Trains and seaports is what worries me most...

I hope London heals itself quickly and with respect to the tragedy.... and not use it as a warmongering battle cry.
