I think the events of today prove beyond a shadow of a doubt, LIHTI theory
It was INCOMPETENCE that lead Bush and Blair to abandon the proper fight in Afghanistan to distract the world into going after Hussein. Afghanistan is where the head of Al Queda resides, and diverting forces from that proper battle in the war on terror has allowed that head to plot and plan for this attack in London.

As was the case with 9/11, Blair and Bush Let It Happen Through Incompetence.

They're morons with no clue of how to fight a war on terror, let alone protect the people who live in their nations.

...but I suspect he's too dumb to be truly arrogant, that's for people who sit at the big kids' table... he's just an excitable boy, headstrong but brain-weak...
EVERY DAY he demonstrates levels of incompetence most of us can only wince and wonder at... have you heard about his latest bicycle spill?
What a PROFOUNDLY silly person. He will go down in history as our funniest president ever.

And also the scariest.

I think, however, he forgot hubris. These guys honestly believe that with their powerful armies and their political successes, they are invincible and therefore nobody would DARE attack their personal protectorates. Silverspoon's gang thought it before 9/11, and Lapdog Tony thought it now.

Wrong again, boys!

Thanks Bush and Blair!!!!!!

I'm so upset about this I want to vomit. I have family there.

B&B and their cowboy acts have ruined everything for peace-loving people.

I suspect Blair's going to have his head on a pike for letting this happen. But who knows...

4. It may be true
in the case of Blair, but with Bush I'm not so sure - don't forget the cozy business ties the Bush family has with the Bin Laden clan! I think invading Iraq was Shrubs way of giving the public the idea that he was taking action "against terrorism" without going after Bin Laden directly. Seems mighty strange to me that Bin Laden is still loose after all these years.

what a great way to:
1. get the topic of Rove/Plame news off the air
2. drum up sagging support for "War on Terrorism"
3. quell impeachment talk
4. boost sagging polls
5. spread fear to garner support

They did it once, who's to say they wouldn't do it again?

7. You can't fight a war on terror with the military anyway
Terrrorism is a tactic, not an ideology or a country. In combatting terrorism the battle for hearts and minds is more important than anything else. If people are happy, healthy and well fed they tend not to become suicide bombers. Every bomb that falls every 'raid on terrorist strongholds' creates more terrorists than it stops.

8. Excellent summation Mr. Starr.
I was thinking about this earlier, and how Bush's WOT is a failure. The only reason I can see that it was London, not the US, that was targeted, is the vast ocean between us. For every terrorist they kill, four more take their place.

10. Bravo, Walt...
What's scarier is to listen to the ignorant wingnuts who are ready to "nuke 'em" til they glow.

Blair took a gamble...hitching his wagon to the U.S.S. BFEE and now the bill is coming due. No matter how this shakes, Mr. Blair is in for a rough time. Too bad the real cause of all this remains totally "tefloned" by our corporate media.

It made me sick to see Wolfowitz in that group. The fox truly are inside the henhouse.

Cheers

26. I was wondering when something bad would happen
But I thought it would happen in the States, except for the unknown factor in Number 7 below.

1.) Cheney has been out of the spotlight for weeks. Basically in an undisclosed location until today we find him on his Wyoming ranch.

2.) Journalists appear before Judge for refusing to testify to Grand Jury.

3.) #2 puts light on Plame investigation. Major media is no longer silent.

4.) #3 Points to "Bush's Brain," Rove, as a traitor leaking CIA secrets.

5.) Rove is only one of at least two "High Ranking White House Officials" who leaked the story.

6.) Newspapers are starting to use the "I" word. (impeachment)

7.) Bush's poll numbers are down. The US citizens need to be scared to boost those numbers. A terrorists hit in the US might make his approval rating lower rather than higher, but that is an unknown.

8.) Major TV news media is starting to call the Plame investigation a "Potential Major Scandal for the Bush administration."

9.) The Downing Street Minutes has hit MSM. Not a lot of talk, but it has informed those who are paying attention.

10.) MSM is starting to report news that it previously ignored. The news about Bush isn't just an extension of his Public Relations department. Some news outlets are actually starting to do their jobs.

35. And MY first thought, after grief and revulsion, was that Bush
is involved with the "terra-ist network". Yesterday the MSM finally started using words like indictment and impeachment regarding BushCo and suddenly this happens. It's been thoroughly proven that the BFEE is quite cozy with the Bin Ladens, so it doesn't seem so far-fetched to me.

Pretty soon we're going to start seeing the "links" between Iran and the bombings so we can start bombing the shit out of them.

38. PLUS... "THEY" KNEW!!!
Yeah, Scotland Yard...

Sure does "sound familiar," doesn't it???

The only way to defeat terrorism is to address (re:correct) the policies that create terrorism. Bombing innocent people only result into bombing more innocent people. Period.

All the while: "they" (the criminal war-profiteers) knew...
And again: they did nothing (because they "needed" it?).

So... are "we" safer now? Sure... :sarcasm:

28. Exactly. It's all in the timing!
Remember during the election? We had a terrorist warning damn near every other day. The Terror alert color code was ALWAYS moved up to Orange. THEN, we learn from Tom Ridge that the administration USED that system during the election. They used questionable intelligence and raised the threat level. These people are pure EVIL.

23. Yes, I'm afraid I must agree...
My husband woke me up when the attacks were first reported. My first thought was, awww shit, here we go again, the idiot's approval ratings will go up, everyone in the media will forget about Plame-gate and the DSM's, here's the new 24/7 made-for-distraction event.

It's up to us to make sure all the REAL issues don't get completely forgotten. We need to hammer home how their incompetence allowed this to take place.

On another note, I'm watching Washington Journal and a lot of the callers are still being VERY critical of Dumbya and our policies - Thank the Gods!

Visualize our success - believe it - work toward it

I was just reading another DU thread, about a lot of weird activity on Air bases around the country last nite. Posted in General discussion, I believe. I wonder if - and this is only speculation, and pretty 'out there", BUT - I wonder if all that military activity was related to what went down in London - just, what if the CIA was involved - and they have to be ready in case the Brits realize what happened, and hand us our asses on a platter. OK, Flame away. Sticks and stones, sticks and stones.

39. Bush was going to war in Iraq no matter what.
That was a given. He would have invaded during his first term regardless of world events. 9/11 even slowed down his timetable, IMO. They wanted to go in during 2002, but had to put it off for a year, IMO.

40. Drawing too many parallels between 9/11 and other attacks...
...is short-sighted, methinks.

The kind of attacks that happened in London or Madrid is a kind that is virtually unstoppable in an open society.

Not so in case of 9/11 -- 4 planes had to be off-course for over an hour in order for it to succeed. That's an entirely preventable attack.

Perfect illustration of how 9/11 HAD to be LIHOP, if not MIHOP...
As to today's bombings in London: Too early to do much of anything but speculate... but time will tell...
I don't know why further successful terrorists actions, here or anywhere, can possibly be of advantage to Bushco at this point... they're looking like serious asshats at the very least, clueless, incompetent boobs that they are...
I think we need to up production on the tinfoil hats though, just to handle the recent influx of newbies to the camp of "I don't know if this guy's so trustworthy after all..."
Very sad for England; their own populace has been just as vociferously opposed to the Iraq war as we here in the states, but also powerless in the face of their own thick and distant leadership. My condolences to them in this time of pointless peril for all...
