12 Aug 2002, Scotland's leading newspaper out of Edinburgh:
excerpt -
The Americans can’t understand their critics. They’ve been changing regimes for years without much trouble. They overthrew Allende, the democratically elected president of Chile and replaced him with Pinochet. The world was aghast. "He’s a fascist dictator," it wailed, and the US of A replied: "We know, but he is our fascist dictator."
They did the same thing all over Asia and Latin America, propping up dictators in support of the Free World. Saddam is a terrorist, they claim. So is Sharon. Saddam wants to acquire weapons of mass destruction, they say. Sharon already has them - and gratefully received they were from the United States. What’s the difference between these two terrorists? Sharon is their terrorist.
Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, America is the only individual superpower left in the world. Under Bush’s presidency, it has become a global bully. It has to be stopped. It can be stopped, but only by the united opposition of other nations. Tony Blair sees himself as George Bush’s right-hand man. If Attila the Hun was US president, Blair would be his right-hand man, too. Come to think of it, there ain’t much difference between Attila and George Dubya, except Attila was more humane and intelligent.
