In essence, we are still fighting the original Gulf War of 1990. Throughout the 90s, we bombed Iraq on an almost monthly basis. Domestically, there was the first terrorist attack on the WTC in 1993. Later, there were other numerous attacks that Clinton thwarted, though some attacks like Cole bombing and the Sudan embassy bombing were carried out. Then in 2001, 9/11 happened. The retaliation in Afghanistan, the war in Iraq, the madrid bombing, and now today.
These events are all tied to the original Gulf War of 1990, which never really ended. We're fighting a new kind of warfare, whereby the weaker-technologically advanced side does not retaliate against the superior military force. Instead, they strike civilian targets. IOW, we bomb their cities. They blow up our buildings. We conquer their governments. They target our transportation systems.
The lesson here is that our asses are on the line here. The days of letting the Wolfowitzes, Perles, Cheaneys, Rumsfelds conduct their neat little wars are over. If we continue to let these chickenhawk, chicken-hearted, chickenshit asshats control our country, expect to see more and more such attacks.
