In the first hours of 9/11 I was thinking about this (wasn't on DU at the time). They didn't just attack when everyone was getting to work they attacked NOT on a Monday or Friday. Mondays everyone is getting back into their workweek "rhythm" and on Fridays lots of people take off or come in under a more relaxed schedule.

They ("THEY") seemed to do this for an obvious reason-more casualties.

First, because you are most likely to kill more people that way. People are heading to work or just arriving. Second, because they want the media attention and by doing it in the morning you can be certain that the media will spend the rest of the day talking about it. Terrorism is all about the fear it creates. Can't make people afraid if they don't hear about it, and by the end of the day you can be certain there will be no one in a western or middle-eastern country who hasn't heard about it.

It comes down to two main factors. First, how many people can they get, and second where can they do it that will be in a frequented place. Don't forget that terrorism is about creating fear, and nothing will create more fear than forcing you to constantly look over your shoulder.

9. It's always in the morning.

It's always my husband on the phone, calling me, telling me to turn on the news. I never watch TV news, so I know it's big if he calls me to say that.

Around 7 am, the phone rang incessantly. I had only been asleep since 3 (insomnia) so I was stumbling around, trying to find the cordless phone. He kept calling and calling and calling.

Finally I found my cell phone and called him and heard, for the third time, "Turn on the news."

Only this time he just said "London." And "I have to go."

I kept thinking "no, not London, not London...."

What does time of day have to do with anything?

To me, it seems clear that the purpose of the attacks is to disrupt commerce and capitalism. This means an attack on the workers. In Europe, such as Madrid and London, workers go to work on public transportation. So it is a cheap way for scumbag cowards to attack the workers.

Nothing to do with Iraq. No Iraqi is proved to be involved in 9-11 or the Madrid bombing. I'd be very surprised if any were involved in today's attack. It looks like the standard Al Qaeda thing with multiple bombings to prove how well-coordinated they (still) are. Just like in Kenya and Tanzania and other attacks they've been involved with.
