1. Yes
I blame her for swaying public opinion to pro war. I recall so many times seeing her on tv talking about biological warfare and beating the war drum re: wmd in Iraq. As far as I'm concerned, she can rot in jail.

24. Wow
never heard that angle before, that she ruined an on-going investigation into terror related charities. I bet she is 'taking the 5th' on all of this....and loving it that MSM is mistakenly calling her noble!

4. I voted no
I am not happy but I think she is in contempt of court clearly. I would be happy if she would stop protecting and shilling for this administration's unethical and treasonal behavior. She is protecting herself plain and simple, nothing else make sense.

5. glad?
I'm not glad anyone is in jail and I'm a prosecutor. I'm glad the Supreme Court agreed that there is no reporter privilege and that reporters may not hide the truth and obstruct justice. I do not share the media's point of view that this ruling will hinder fact finding since I do not believe for a minute that the corporate media gives a shit about the truth. Anyway, this case is not aboutprotecting someone who blew the whistle on wrong doing. It is about protecting the wrong-doers themselves.

You're not glad Charles Manson and the Unabomber are in jail? :wtf:

21. I accept it as necessary, but I take no pleasure in knowing it.
Edited on Thu Jul-07-05 02:36 PM by Deep13
"Glad" is an emotional reaction, not an objective assessment.

Anyway, they are not in jail, they are in prison. It's a nasty place. I would rather that Manson and the Unabomber had not killed anyone.

26. It's not semantics.
What someone thinks, feels, believes or decides are completely distinct ideas.

Anyway prosecutors are lawyers and laws are made of words.

6. I voted "other"
Here's why: I would prefer she didn't use the First Amendment as an excuse to hide a high level person from being indicted. That said, I think jail is where she belongs. She IS obstructing justice. If she had WRITTEN the story, she might have her "journalistic" integrity to hide behind. As it is, she is being complicit in revealing Plame's identity.

10. Yes
She belongs there.

Hopefully she will contemplate the war crimes she abetted, develop a conscience, and then spill the beans. I'd be even happier if she would fully cooperate right now in exchange for a light sentence. She might, at that point, merit forgiveness... though, I doubt any Iraqi will ever forgive her and her ilk... or you and I for that matter. :(

15. Apples & Oranges..........
Look, she's had her head up Bush's ass so far she can see what he had for lunch and her colleagues consider her a back stabbing c*#t, but that has nothing to do with the principle of not giving up a source. You can argue that point separately. She deserves to be called out on her lousy reporting, not jailed for it.

16. No
While it is gratifying to think of karma catching up to her for all her shameless cheerleading for Bush's war, that is not why she is in jail.

Anytime the government locks up a reporter for refusing to name a source it is a BAD THING. Whatever her sins in the past, Judith Miller is defending freedom of the press sitting in her cell today.

out of court on her way to the slammer ...well it made my day. i hope fitz can throw all the bastards that betrayed our country in jail. they were responsible for backing a war that will cost an unknown number of deaths and injuries, they have sold the american people the big lie,and they have corrupted our position in the world.
i never thought i`d agree with a federal prosecutor but i`m behind him 100%..

Without protection for sources we can kiss what remains of investigative journalism good-bye.

29. No... they should be protected WITHOUT having to be anonymous!
Edited on Thu Jul-07-05 03:32 PM by TahitiNut
This is all about the defense of whistle-blowers from retaliation for disclosing wrong-doing. That's the core of the media 'argument' for maintaining the anonymity of anyone who peddles anything.

But the fact of the matter is that it's NOT in the public interest to 'shield' wrong-doing under some misplaced privilege of the media, and that's what we get when we grant the anonymity of anyone who peddles anything.

Let's try to remember that it was the RETALIATION for whistle-blowing (a kind of whistle-blowing that's NOT currently 'protected" under our laws) that the media peddled ... and that cannot be viewed as being in the public interest!

Instead, we need a MASSIVE increase in the preemptive protection of whistle-blowers ... far beyond what currently exists.

When that's corrected, there is absolutely no rationale for a "shield law" that allows the corporate press to have a parasitic privilege based on the failure of our legislators to protect those who expose corruption to the disinfection of sunlight and public view.

Judith Miller (and the Times) are engaging in institutional HYPOCRISY on a grand scale.

of keeping this sorted out and on track.

I just want to thank you.

It is alarming how the seminal truth of things so often quickly spins out of control and into a sort of mass popular misconception.

28. No, because I want justice, not specifically her jailing.
I want to know who outed Valerie Plame, whether any other agents were harmed (perhaps even killed) because of that action, and whether indeed it was an act of vengeance and control by the administration. I am confident I know the answer to the latter.

39. NO, I don't want her in jail, I want her to testify!
This lady is hiding something big. I'm sure Fitzgerald already knows what it is, but just needs her testimony to meet all the legal requirements. She wants to hide behind journalistic integrity, but integrity has never been her strong suit before.

No how, no way, would I ever keep my mouth shut and take a jail sentence for ANYONE. If I am in trouble and the authorities want info from me they can have it. I'd sing like a canary. Hell, I'd call the Washington Post and all my local newspapers and give them the whole story as well. I would know just which reporters to talk to.

So why would she keep her mouth shut? What is her payoff? I sure would like to know.
