108. Or gloating over a successful MIHOP.
Edited on Fri Jul-08-05 05:00 AM by Vitruvius
When the BFEE/VRWC sees something that would be "to their advantage", they make it happen.

And then they gloat. Openly. Like the murderous sociopaths they are.

Of course, it's Fox News, so I'm not surprised.

93. Top Ten?
I'd give him at least half, if not all Top Ten spots for this idiocy that dribbled out of his mouth. One almost expected him to continue thusly: "It could work to our advantage just it did on 9/11, so we can finally have a legitimate impetus for TAKING OVER THE WORLD, bwah haw haw haw!"

But what this conservative cretin said was despicable enough, as it is, which was basically, "It's a good thing that at least 37 innocent people died and 700 more were maimed and injured on thewir way to work so we can keep terrorism at the forefront of our thoughts again," which is better than actually taking proper steps to ERADICATING it.

Right about now, Tony must be banging his head on a mahogany file cabinet at Downing Street muttering, "Why did I listen to that bloody twit? Stupid (bang) stupid (bang) stupid (bang)!"

70. Thanks for the link. I just sent them the following:
Dear General Manager of Viewer Services:

I am appalled and disgusted by the comments today of Fox News host Brian Kilmeade and Stuart Varney. How on earth could they say that the bombings in London today "works to our advantage, in the Western world's advantage, for people to experience something like this together, just 500 miles from where the attacks have happened." How could Brian Kilmeade say that these attacks were to "our" advantage unless he means that they were favorable to right-wing ideologues. That interpretation is bolstered by the follow-up comments by Stuart Varney delighting in the fact that global warming and African AIDS were taken off the front burner: "it sticks terrorism and the fight on the war on terror right up front all over again." Only demented and morally bankrupt people could use such a tragedy to rejoice in the possible political gain for their ideology!
I am hereby demanding that these so-called journalist be removed from the airwaves immediately and that Fox News make a sincere public apology for this afront. I also want to say that If Fox News sees the events of today to their advantage, then I no longer see it as being to my advantage to watch Fox News.

78. This morning I was willing to believe the London bombs were genuine
terrorist attacks. Seeing something like this from FAUX, with the talk of "front burners," makes me incline to a MIHOP explanation. I hope DUers from the British Isles are picking up on these callous, twisted remarks from FAUX, and letting others know about them. This kind of soulless machination is the hallmark of the * admin.

81. Yeah, if FAUX talks like this, you can bet
Blair, Bush, and the neocons THINK like this, especially since FAUX is simply the media arm of the Bush/Blair war machine.

I hope the resolve of the Brits after today's tragedy will prevent them from overreacting like we Americans did after 9/11 (understandably, but regretfully). I hope they don't get behind Blair like Americans got behind Bush after 9/11. If we've learned anything as a people, it should be that a violent response to a terrorist act is as senseless as the terrorism itself.

The Brits are well educated and smart, and they've dealt with IRA terrorism for years (not to mention WWII bombings). I'm truly hopeful that they'll treat this like the terror scenes in the film "Brazil" (just continue enjoying their tea as the bombs go off) and look for a replacement for Bush's poodle.

Can you get your tiny head to understand that Iraq was a SECULAR nation run by a dictator who held a tight rein on his people and would NOT allow terrorist training camps that could take HIM out?

horrifying. I practically choked on my own vomit when I watched Bush give a statement this morning about the ongoing war on terror. He could barely keep from grinning. It's pretty frightening when you've got an administration that actually benefits from the threat of terrorism. And Fox News ought to be coming under attack for a comment like that. Mr. Kilmeade's remark is tasteless on its face, but, if he had made it almost anywhere but FoxNews, it would be less so.

FoxNews is privatized propaganda for the neoconservatives; they define the war on terrorism as doing whatever Bush says. Terrorism is still a threat; we've been letting Bush have his way for nearly four years since September 11 and it's still a threat. The people at FoxNews will never say so, but today's attacks in London are further evidence of Bush's failure to lead an effective war against terrorists and, consequently, further reason why his leadership on this matter should be rejected. The people at FoxNews will never say that invading Iraq, a country that nothing to do with jihadist terrorism before 2003 and was not a military treat to anyone, could never have had any positive effect on the struggle against the people who perpetrated the September 11 attacks. Invading Iraq was a waste of resources that should have been used to pursue Osama and his followers; it was one of the greatest blunders in history.

Perhaps terrorism needs to be given a higher priority, as Mr. Kilmeade and Mr. Varney say. However, this is not a selling point for Mr. Bush's leadership, as they assume.

Those of us who dissent from Mr. Bush's leadership do so not because we want to make the world safe for terrorists but because Mr. Bush is not making it safe for the victims of terrorism. He has not directed an honest war against terrorism and has no idea how to direct one and at the same time make it profitable for his corporate cronies in Halliburton, the petroleum companies and the defense industry. The latter seems to be a more important priority with Bush.

Consequently, his solution to the war on terrorism is to invade Iraq and transfer its wealth to his friends. Just over a week ago, in the face of a deteriorating situation that a real leader with honest priorities would never have allowed to arise, Bush told the American people that his plan is working and that he will not change his approach.

To continue to follow Bush's dishonest leadership is dangerous.

We're waist deep in the big muddy and the big fool says to push on.

I think Murdoch is trying to work behind the scenes to get them changed so Sky can go the Faux News route.

By the main TV news outlets here BBC and ITV.

They can't get away with reporting one side of the news, or not reporting certain stories, when the BBC and ITV are reporting them.

They would lose any viewers and credibility that they have here (and they don't have that much to start with) if they tried to ignore stories that were being covered by others.

He outraged me because he said that maybe now the British people (apart from Tony Blair) will be more supportive of OUR war on terror. And he went on to say that now more than ever we must prevail in Iraq and that all Americans should not only support the troops there but support U.S. policies as well.

Here we go again--if you are not with this administration then you must be on the side of the terrorists. I can't stand it.

90. Brit Hume had some choice personal reflections as well....
Brit Hume joins the sick Faux parade ...

During Fox News' coverage of the July 7 London bombings, Washington managing editor Brit Hume told host Shepard Smith that his "first thought," when he "heard there had been this attack" and saw the low futures market, was "Hmmm, time to buy." Smith had asked Hume to comment on the lack of a negative U.S. stock market reaction to the London attacks.

From Fox News' July 7 breaking news coverage between 1 and 2 p.m. ET:

SMITH: Some of the things you might expect to happen, for instance, a drop in the stock market and some degree of uncertainty across this country -- none of that really seen today, and I wonder if the timing of it -- that it happened in the middle of the night and we were able to get a sense of the grander scheme of things -- wasn't helpful in all this.

HUME: Well, maybe. The other thing is, of course, people have -- you know, the market was down. It was down yesterday, and you know, you may have had some bargain-hunting going on. I mean, my first thought when I heard -- just on a personal basis, when I heard there had been this attack and I saw the futures this morning, which were really in the tank, I thought, "Hmmm, time to buy." Others may have thought that as well. But you never know about the markets. But obviously, if the markets had behaved badly, that would obviously add to people's sense of alarm about it. But there has been a lot of reassurance coming, particularly in the way that -- partly in the way the Brits handled all this, but also in the way that officials here handled it. There seems to be no great fear that something like that is going to happen here, although there's no indication that we here had any advance warning.

106. I just sent Faux news an e-mail
I am disgusted by an exchange made by Fox News Host Brian Kilmeade and substitute host Stuart Varney on the July 7 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends. It occurred during coverage of the attacks on London subways and busses.

KILMEADE: And he made the statement, clearly shaken, but clearly determined. This is his second address in the last hour. First to the people of London, and now at the G8 summit, where their topic Number 1 --believe it or not-- was global warming, the second was African aid. And that was the first time since 9-11 when they should know, and they do know now, that terrorism should be Number 1. But it's important for them all to be together. I think that works to our advantage, in the Western world's advantage, for people to experience something like this together, just 500 miles from where the attacks have happened.

VARNEY: It puts the Number 1 issue right back on the front burner right at the point where all these world leaders are meeting. It takes global warming off the front burner. It takes African aid off the front burner. It sticks terrorism and the fight on the war on terror, right up front all over again.

KILMEADE: Yeah.

I find it abhorrent that these hosts would use a tragedy such as this to promote an agenda. To consider the deaths of 37 people and maiming of at least 700 more "advantageous" is offensive to say the least. The narcissism of these two individuals is appalling.

The problems of global warming and extreme poverty in Africa are no less important now than they were before the events of the morning of 7/7. To suggest that the original agenda G8 conference was a waste of time, and that now (thanks to the London attacks) the conference can be better utilized is inappropriate.

I expect better from a network that claims to be "fair and balanced".

111. LET FOX NEWS KNOW THAT YOU ARE DISGUSTED WITH LONDON COVERAGE

Just when you thought Fox News couldn't get any lower--Fox News host Brian Kilmeade and Fox News business contributor and substitute host Stuart Varney seemed to be reveling in how the bombing in London "works to our advantage". Gloating in how it puts the "war on terrorism" on the front burner and aid to Africa and global warming on the back burner.

See the Media Matters report and watch the Fox News video at this link:

http://mediamatters.org/items/200507070005

If you thought the coverage of these horrific events couldn't get lower than that--Brit Hume reacted by saying that his first reaction to hearing about the bombings in London was to look at the futures market and say to himself "hmm-time to buy".

Dear Sir/Madam

I wish to express my total disgust with the comments by Fox News host Brian Kilmeade and Fox News business contributor and substitute host Stuart Varney as they both gloated over how the horrific attacks in London works for the advantage of a particular political agenda.

I didn’t think TV coverage of such terrible events could get lower until I heard Brit Hume tell Shepherd Smith that his first thought upon hearing of the bombing was “time to buy”.

I do hope Fox News apologizes for this obscene insensitivity to human suffering.

I do hope Fox News reflects on what impression they are giving of American values as your programming is beamed around the world

I do hope Fox News remembers that there are children watching.

Sincerely,

We already know that our dear friend Bill O'Reilly over there at Faux thinks that the BBC is "soft on terrorists" and is "sanitizing terrorism," i wonder what these people would say if the BBC had said that 9/11 will work to the Western world's advantage?

Don't get me wrong, my heart goes out to victims of both 9/11 and the London bombings, and their families, but we expected (rightly, and received) support after 9/11, and then after our friends in Britan experience a similar disaster, we give them THIS? absolutely despicable
