Giving credit to Ashcroft..(Plame investigation)

I am torn on this issue.

We all saw Ashcroft stall the investigation, probably allowing the criminals to get their ducks in a row.

But what message does appointing a guy nic-named the 'Bulldog' to find the truth send ?

At first I gave credit to Ashcroft for this appointment, but after further review...Did he know that the leakers would get off no matter what ?..If so ..then he would appoint the most credible guy he could find, just so we could't accuse them of 'fixing' the investigation in any way .."whats wrong ? ..isn't Fitzgerald good enough ?"

It really seems Fitzgerald was the worst guy to appoint if you wanted to avoid charges...so why is he the guy ?
