BREAKING NEWS: SADDAM NOT INVOLVED IN LONDON BOMBING!
"I think that works to our advantage, in the Western world's advantage, for people to experience something like this together, just 500 miles from where the attacks have happened." - Brian Kilmeade, Fox News this afternoon after the London terrorist attacks, glad that the attacks helped put terrorism "back on the front burner" of the G8 Summit.

Okay, it's been a while since I've ranted about anything, but I noticed many interesting things following today's events.

First off, as expected, the Right-wing dug in its heels and sank ever deeper into denial today as members of the delusional Right found *no* connection between todays terrorist bombings in London and the growing violence in Iraq. In fact, to them, this is just further evidence that they are doing the right thing by "concentrating on terrorism". The very thought that it is our presence in Iraq that triggered this attack on the first day of the "G8" Summit, never even crosses their mind.

Will public opinion follow suit?

Please note: Despite what millions of loyal Bush supporters believed (and many continue to this day), Saddam Hussein was NOT involved in the attacks on 9/11, and as if it needed to be said, nor was he involved with the attacks today in London. After 9/11, The Bush Administration argued vehemently that getting Saddam Hussein was more important than getting Osama bin Laden. Saddam is long gone, but al-Qaeda lives on (as Thursday's events clearly point out).

One of my first thoughts after hearing the news this morning was, "Will this *finally* help many Bush supporters see the light? That the war in Iraq isn't fighting terrorism but in fact actually breeding it?" Alas, in many reports, the answer is No, as many Right-wing pundits only saw this as proof that the war in Iraq is just.

Something I hear a lot of from supporters of the war, and you probably do too, is the line, "We're fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here." I used to think "over there" meant Iraq and Afghanistan, but now I see it means "everyplace East of the Atlantic". These people don't care if London was bombed today because it's "over there". Just as long as the bombing is not "here".

And the fact that the violence is *spreading* doesn't register with them either. It was less than two weeks ago that Vice President Cheney said that the escalating violence in Iraq proves that the "terrorists" are "getting desperate" and are "in their last throes". Then Secretary of Defence Rumsfeld goes on every Sunday talk show last week, defending the Vice Presidents' characterization while suggesting the violence in Iraq could continue for "another 12 years". That's some "last throes"!

Which brings me back to my original question: "Will todays' bombings in London wake people up?" Must it be necessary for another attack to strike on this side of the Atlantic before these people finally see the error of their ways? Or would it only send them deeper into denial?

The good news is, we don't need "100%" of the people to come to grips with reality, just 51%... and from the last election, we know we are already 49% of the way there. And I'm confident there are at least 2% of Americans "on the fence" that could be easily swayed, and maybe... just maybe... the wind that blew through London today is all the breeze they needed to sway them.

Let us pray.

(PS: Anyone one willing to nominate this rant for the front page?)

10. Saddam behind OKC bombing too!
Edited on Thu Jul-07-05 08:57 PM by Mugsy
According to a NeoCon friend of mine, Saddam was behind the Oklahoma City Bombing too. You think I'm making this up???

"Wolfowitz Bombshell: Saddam Behind 9/11 Attacks and OKC Bombing"
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/921398/posts

Just do a quick Google search on Saddam and Oklahoma City.

And that's not the only bizarre accusation I've heard NeoCons make. When you listen to these people after a while, you begin to feel like you stepped into the Looking Glass, back to the McCarthy era, where wild-eyed paranoia and speculation is "truth", and logic and reason makes you a "Commie".

7. War is Peace...
Emanuel Goldstein rears his ugly head at a most opportune moment for BushCo. It looks like Emanuel and the boys shouldn't have outsourced the translation when they claimed responsibility, though. Soon there will be a video capture of the new Iranian President planting the bombs. I hope it works, because if this doesn't distract us from the current BushCo woes, Disneyland might be next....

Irregardless, just because your teevee tells you not to think something through doesn't mean you have to listen. Don't worry, deep thought isn't required. All you need to ask yourself is: "Who truly benefits from the situation?"

For example, consider 9/11. If someone told you that a kooky rightwing think tank, founded, in 1997, by the likes of Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and Paul Wolfowitz, was created to plan a new American Imperialism, would you call them a crackpot? Furthermore, if they told you that this think tank publicly recognized (in Sept. 2000) the need for a 9/11-like event to justify their goals, then they would certainly be wacky, wouldn't they?

Well, let's get wackier yet. Read the left column of pg 51 of the following link: (This is their literature, posted on their site)
http://www.newamericancentury.org/RebuildingAmericasDefenses.pdf
Better still, read the whole document. Scary stuff that sounds hauntingly familiar.

By the way, chicks DIG tin foil hats.....

15. no hat no love says this chick
welcome!

i mentioned this somewhere else, and i'm ashamed that it was my first thought today, BUT right after the london attack, NPR said that the "terrorists" are also targeting Denmark and Italy. that would make spain, london, denmark and italy -- now lessee, what do these places have in common? could it be that they are making life difficult for the boy prez?

why would an islamist give a crap about denmark?

28. And they are the MAJORITY!
Edited on Thu Jul-07-05 09:50 PM by Mugsy
That's what's *really* frightening!

These idiots that can't spell, can't form an intelligent thought and must *rewrite history* in order to defend their beliefs, are in the majority.

They make Paris Hilton a celebrity and elect a man that desperately needs training wheels on his bicycle to be President of the United States.

It's a world where being intelligent makes you an "elitist".

34. actually, they aren't the majority. that's simply not true.
the last two elections were not allowed to run fair. they have to lie cheat and steal. they have to disenfranchise. they have to intimidate. they have been brought up to be loud and empty-headed b/c that's what wins playground battles. but they aren't the majority.

we ask that for national security purposes, Rupert Murdoch stop printing undignified images of Hussein. He is allowing the terrorists to win as Saddam communicates to his various terror cells around the world with his "package"

Now it's Tony Blair's turn to play pin the tail on the donkey, the unblinded edition. Bush lost the game but got re=elected anyway  . The Spanish government lost the game (they walked over to the corner of the room marked "Basque") and got their just reward.

At least Blair seems to show occasional signs of intelligence.

29. This is very good Mugsy...the only thing I disagreed with is the
last paragraph...We've have 51% for the last two presidential elections; *B was elected by SCOTUS in 2000 and by Diebold in 2004. I'll nominate.

The good news is, we don't need "100%" of the people to come to grips with reality, just 51%... and from the last election, we know we are already 49% of the way there. Realizing it was really rigged on a national grand scale. Maybe one days i'll find it more than just tragically humorous. If they'd been caught, maybe the events today in London wouldn't have happened...who knows? The universe would have been a lot better with Kerry at the helm.

There's A REASON "terrorism" wasn't at the top of the agenda for the G8, and that's because shrub seriously believed they were making progress.

Oh what I wouldn't give to see of photo of chimpy's face the moment they told him!
