New Zogby poll results: Bush 50%, leads Dean and Clark by 10%
The new Zogby poll out today gives Bush a 50/49 approval rating (up slightly from earlier this month when Bush had 45%)

Against a "unnamed" Dem Bush loses 45-41 percent.

Against real live Dems here are the results:
Bush: 45%
Clark: 35%

Bush: 47%
Dean: 37%

Bush: 47%
Kerry: 37%

Bush: 49%
Lieberman: 37%

Bush: 49%
Gephardt: 37%

So all of our major candidates keep Bush under 50% and are within striking distance. Good News, for all!!

In the race for the nomination, Clark and Dean are tied according to Zogby:
Dean: 12%
Clark 12%
Kerry 7%
Gep 6%
Lieberman 5%
Sharpton 4%
Braun 4%
Edwards 2%
Kucinich 1%
Graham 1%

3. Depends on what poll
4 of the last 5 polls has bush in freefall. Remember Zogby has a strange way of doing his polls.

5. 50%
is about where he is most other polls. It's all within the error of margin.

7. Don't worry about it
The Zogby poll earlier this month had Bush at 45 percent, which was a huge drop from the month before, when he was at 52 percent (at that time some other polls still had him in the mid-50s). I think that poll was an aberration. This poll is more in line with all the others, and it's still less than his July (53) and August figures so the long-term trend continues downward. Zogby himself mentioned Bush may have gotten a boost from appearing before the U.N., and that will certainly be short-term.

2. I'm sick of all these polls
Some polls have Clark ahead in Dem race some have Dean. Some polls have Clark and Kerry beating Bush, Some have it the opposite. I had enough of polls for awhile.

4. The Dem race is in flux
and will be for awhile, I assume. The bottom line is, our candidates are creeping closer to Bush. Keep that in mind.

6. Suffice it to say
Bush is losing ground rapidly.

I am a little leery of a Zogby poll showing Bush with a 10 point edge, when just a few days ago Gallup showed him losing to two candidates.

9. It's probably the difference between registered voters (CNN)
and likely voters (Zogby).

8. I wonder how many Dean bashers will
put this poll down some memory hole. For the record this poll statisticly says the same thing as the other poll did except it appears that Bush is outside most reasonable MOEs for nearly all of our candidates which he wasn't before. I will be intellectually honest and say that Dean is statisticly tied with most of the candidates in both polls that appear here.

10. lets hope that isn't the case
today has been a good day poll-wise for Dean. Tied or leading in NBC-WSJ and now Zogby. Running the same margin behind Bush as Clark and doing better than Kerry, Gep, and Lieberman against Bush. He definitely is as electable as any other in the race and they all are electable.

11. Named vs. Unnamed
Edited on Thu Sep-25-03 03:13 PM by NRK
Why the disparity? Many people are unfamiliar with the candidates and don't want to be ridiculed. "Ooo! You voted for DEAN?! Don't you know that he (fill in the blank)." --Well, no, they don't. Their unwillingness to commit to any particular one is probably due to unfamiliarity with their positions. It's encouraging that they are considering Dem candidates. After all, when the political novices arrive at the polls, they WILL get to choose an unknown Dem over Bush.

On edit: Don't mean to sound condescending, I just know that most people don't spend all day on DU.

12. that he has consistently done poorly against an unnamed dem
even when he was riding high in the polls is actually very good news for Dems. Bush has never really closed the sale with voters in this country.
