International law and the war in Afghanistan: a conflict ?

I understand completely why we ostensibly undertook the war in Afghanistan, to rout OBL and the Taliban. Of course, I've read about the pipeline that was being planned for Afghanistan, also. However, if one bases the invasion of Afghanistan upon the publicly-stated premise of routing the Taliban and OBL, isn't that premise against international law ? This has always troubled me.

I think it would pass muster in that we were attacked by people trained in their terrorist camps which were obstensively allowed to flourish under Taliban rule.

2. You are correct....Bush declared the people in charge

of Afganistan, the Taliban, as being in charge of a failed country, therefor one that wasn't protected under International Law....

If I am remembering correctly, I think Only Saudi Arabia had an operating Embasy in Kabul.......

That gives a lot of justification for Bush to Call Afganistan a failed state.....
