Informal proposal for a new DU "feature" RE The Top Ten

Conservative Idiots.

Everyone at DU believes this site to be a real up and coming power-- we're Known, and politicians and journalists read the forums and quote our members and do their best to dis the Underground. So we're "out there". This might be a good time to take another step toward them.

I was thinking about the special "Zeroth" slot that was created for Rove in the Top Ten Conservative Idiots, and it suddenly came to me that what we need is either a weekly or monthly Top of the Top slot (give it a better title if you'd like)-- and give the perp winner a special recognition award, and email notification and our special congratulations to them. Then send an email to the press in notification that the award has been given. (I've seen a very complete press email list floating around here somewhere that could be used.)

I was thinking that an actual award could be given-- a special limited posting account so the awardee may feel free to respond without registering. Perhaps also send them a DU bumpersticker.

Opinions? (Feel free to flesh this basic concept out.)

1. It would be cool to have a weekly nominations thread.

Maybe a separarte forum for posting nominations and a weekly poll thread on the Ton Ten for that week...culiminating in a poll that would be based on the # of votes the 10 get. That list then get's published.

3. Maybe they could create a system similar to the Greatest Page

Instead of a weekly article we could have an ever rotating top-ten. People could place their nominations in a specified forum (subject to mod approval) and then individual nominations could be voted onto the top ten list front page.

I STILL believe that we should change the name of this from Conservative Idiots to something else -- Regressive Idiots, Right Wing Corporate Whore Idiots, anything but Conservative . . .

BushCo and the BushCo-ites nominated each week are NOT Conservatives! . . . they are regressives, fascists, dominionists, corporatists, and a whole lot of other things, but conservatives they are NOT . . . REAL conservatives support things like the Constitution, civil liberties, balanced budgets, environmental conservation, and keeping government out of people's personal business . . . REAL conservatives could, in fact, be REAL allies for us . . . IF we stopped insulting them every week . . .

I've suggested this before, and it never got any traction . . . maybe it's time to revisit the idea . . . imho . . .
