Not literally true. I do know they monitor them all. And have compromised the keys of some of them. But if you are using this to email your boss and tell him he is a jerk, I don't think you have any worries. And if you are discussing WMDs... Well, then I hope the spooks DO catch you.

6. Since I am the paranoid type,
and have long worn a :tinfoilhat:, I do wonder if some of these sites that offer anonymous surfing and email etc. are not being really run by the CIA/MI5/Mossad or other shadowy type intelligence agencies to collect useful information for intelligence (and/or blackmail) purposes.

10. I like Freenet.. it lets you surf anonymously, file share anonymously,
and even has a Freemail that allows anonmymous email.
