Ya know those crazy guys who stand on street corners and rant?

Ususally they're wingers railing against abortion.

Well, I saw one today. He had a banner that said something definitely anti-Bush (I couldn't read all of it). And the thing is, he was a working class ... okay, a redneck kind of guy (we're all working class). And he was just yelling at the top of his lungs.

I don't know if this kind of thing hurts or helps our side, but I thought it was an interesting development.

2. Does being on the corner make the message less valid?

Or is it that our minds are so programmed that someone standing on a corner with a message we automatically dismiss as a kook and therefore blow off a message which may have truth to it? In which case who is the kook - the one with the truthful message, or the person who dismisses it because the way it is delivered?

5. During the last election I saw about 5 people on streetcorners...

Wearing billboards that said "VOTE KERRY!!" These people would start preaching to the cars as the light turned red about Bush's crappy policies. Most people (I live near Seattle) were shouting 'Go Kerry', beeping giving the thumbs up...

I'm betting that as the economy heads into the next Great Depression II (coming soon to an economy near you!) that we'll see a BIG increase in anti-Bush street corner preaching!

make me cross the street to avoid them.

However, every now and then, they have something worthwhile to say.

Except, of course, for the Wingnuts standing outside the gate of Knott's Berry Farm with anti-abortion signage (and if they'd gotten near my kid, there would have been a sign up somebody's ass). Those people need a good swift boot to the head.

8. There's one guy I used to see every Friday afternoon

He had a "Jesus Loves You" sign he would hold in one hand, and he'd wave with the other.

During election times that area would be filled with people holding signs for their favorite candidates.


It used to be that only people who were really zealous or those who had disorders felt compelled to demonstrate on street corners. Nowadays the social and political climate is so chaotic I'm surprised there aren't more people on the streets calling for change.
