the flaw in "spending money on homeland security is useless"
The flaw is that the people spreading this idea, like Christopher Hitchens and others, is that their unstated standard is perfection.

Yes, no amount of money will guarantee no attacks.

But that's not the point of the spending. The point of the spending is to minimize the risks in proven ways, and to improve the response in proven ways, minimizing the consequences of the attacks that are inevitable.

It's a matter of priorities, and the hawks' priorities are with war, not with protecting people.
